Amazon Will Hold Virtual Conference for SMB Marketplace Sellers | Retail Leader

Amazon will hold a virtual conference next month focusing on tips that SMBs can use to better sell their goods on the e-commerce operators marketplace.

This new conference comes as Amazon faces pressure over its marketplace operations and tries to turn on the charm to further promote that particular part of its business.

Given the current pandemic environment, the event is entirely virtual and free to attend, Amazon said. Participants will hear from Amazon, connect with peers, and learn proven techniques and best practices to apply as they grow their businesses in the digital economy. Experts will also provide strategies on ways to adapt to the variability of the current climate.

Amazon can be liable for third-party sellers' defective products, appeals court rules - The Verge

An appeals court held that the company was 'pivotal' to the sale of a defective battery that injured a customer

The decision could have dire repercussions for Amazon, which has argued for years that it only serves as an intermediary between buyers and its third-party sellers, which Amazon collectively refers to as the "Amazon Marketplace" even though it's not a distinct place on Amazon. (Third-party sellers appear in normal Amazon listings, with only a small line of text to indicate that the actual seller isn't Amazon itself.

City finances are in trouble, and next year could be worse - Marketplace

We got a new report Thursday from the National League of Cities , looking at the financial situation of American cities. Suffice to say, things aren't great — on average, all major sources of tax revenue are down. And 90% of cities surveyed say next year's financial situation is looking even worse.

* * *

“Police, fire, garbage, road paving, water and sewer,” said John Cranley, the mayor of Cincinnati.

His city relies heavily on income tax revenue, which has fallen with unemployment spiking . Cranley said the city's had to borrow more to avoid layoffs in those services. It's taking other measures, too.

Glendale vegan marketplace has food, products from over 30 vendors

More than 30 vendors will sell food, drinks and other goods out of The Village in Glendale starting Friday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m. when the holistic vegan marketplace opens for the first time.

The "multi-tenant small business launchpad" is the brainchild of Kristine Parker, owner of the mobile juice bar So Juicy Cafe, and Nadira Jenkins-El of The Cutting Board Bakery and Cafe in Mesa. Parker bought the The Village location last year and has worked with Jenkins-El to make their shared dream a reality: a plant-based community that highlights "melanated businesses," according to Jenkins-El.
