Doubling Down On Analytics And Data At Cigna

Papush, who is originally from Ukraine, previously headed data and analytics at the Australia-based insurer QBE. She also worked for several years in the Decision Management group at Citibank. That organization was a distributed but closely-networked community of practice, and Papush is establishing a similar structure at Cigna to better connect the thousands of employees who do some form of analytical work.

There are also groups that are more "horizontal" — focused on particular types of analytics expertise or data. The Data Science Center of Expertise led by Matt McGinnis is focused on developing leading machine learning, deep learning and optimization capabilities. A Marketing Analytics group is headed by David Fogarty, who like Papush once worked in credit card analytics at GE Capital, and also headed an analytics center of excellence in Hong Kong for Cigna at one point.

Willis Towers Watson announced the appointment of Fiona Shaw as its new head of data, analytics and innovation for its Global Fac division.

Shaw has extensive insurance, reinsurance and analytics experience having spent 30-plus years at Willis Towers Watson, initially in retail insurance broking, before joining Willis Re’s Research & Development team in January 2000. She subsequently went on to co-lead the development of the Catastrophe Management Services team of Willis Re International.
