Shopportunist: Navigate the Facebook Marketplace to buy, sell

Online garage sale pages and buy-and-sell groups started surfacing many years ago but Facebook officially streamlined the social media swap meet movement in 2016 when it introduced Marketplace.

So often I come upon some treasure, promptly type a terse, “Is this still available” and wait. Seconds later, a ding and then disappointment: “You’re second in line,” “Someone is on their way” or “It just sold.” Late, once again.

Eliminating the concept of waste from the economy - Marketplace

Can pollution and climate change be addressed and solved as if they were design problems? For architect William McDonough, the answer is a straightforward “yes.” But the solution involves getting rid of the idea of waste as an end product in our society and economy.

While it may seem like a far-fetched idea, McDonough has developed systems of renewal in building design and clothing production that run on the concept of a “circular economy.”

What Sellers Need to Know About Fulfilling Amazon Marketplace Orders

Third-party sellers sold more than 6,500 products per minute on the Amazon Marketplace on average in the past year, the company reports. To fulfill those orders, over 450,000 sellers utilized Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). In recent months, however, marketplace sellers who utilize FBA have faced significant challenges.

In the initial throes of the coronavirus pandemic, nonessential products took a backseat as FBA opted to prioritize essential items. Sellers were temporarily suspended from replenishing nonessential goods to Amazon fulfillment centers. Outbound shipping times lengthened from as little as 24 hours to weeks or more. When regular shipping resumed in mid-April, Amazon limited the quantities that sellers could ship via FBA.

The new business was started up by Jason and Bridget Lesizza after 7-Eleven announced it would not be reopening.

The Fairfield couple says they decided to trade in a nearly 20-year commute to New York City to give back to the community, all while doing it with their three kids.

The Lesizzas say they already have plans to make a signature sandwich called the Fairfield Cheesesteak.

Housing starts, and prices, are up in July - Marketplace

The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that builders broke ground on almost 1.5 million new homes in July — that's up more than 22% from June. But those new homes won't be cheap because prices for raw materials like lumber are skyrocketing.

Mark Konter has some bad news for his customers. He's a homebuilder and part-owner of Konter Quality homes in Savannah, Georgia. He's raising prices this week because the price he pays for timber is going through the roof.
