The survey was conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Affirm. Out of 2,000 Americans surveyed, 47% responded that they were using (or planned to use) the extra downtime that the coronavirus pandemic has afforded by getting a head start on shopping.
While some people said they were waiting until October to begin, about 15% admitted they started Christmas shopping in August.
Due heightened awareness about avoiding crowds and crowded areas, about half of the poll's respondents said they plan on doing their holiday shopping entirely online this year.
Many things are taking place:

Marin shopping for buildings to house homeless
Marin County officials are negotiating with the owners of a Corte Madera hotel and a San Rafael office building in the hopes of buying the sites and turning them into long-term housing for the homeless.
At the same time, a homeless services nonprofit is seeking permission from San Rafael officials to turn the same office building that Marin County is negotiating for into a temporary homeless shelter.
Marin County’s projects will depend on funding from the state’s Project Homekey, which provides grants to California cities and counties to buy hotels, apartments and other buildings and convert them into long-term homeless housing.
Quite a lot has been going on:
I went shopping with a virtual stylist, and now I'm never leaving my house again | Seattle Refined
Nordstrom is open for in-person shopping with safety precautions in place, but for those who aren't ready to venture out just yet, the department store has come up with a virtual solution to get you your shopping fix; a one-on-one appointment with a virtual stylist. While many things just aren't the same (and sometimes worse) when done virtually...this was surprisingly not one of them.
Shopping is one of my favorite things to do, so I truly didn't know what to expect when I tried this out. BUT - I tried, it, I loved it and I'm legit never leaving my house again to go shopping, unless it's to pick up something curbside.

The economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the financial problems of retailers in the commercial district around the Friendship Heights Metro station, reigniting appeals for a major revival of what was once a corridor of high-end shopping.
Department stores Lord & Taylor and Neiman Marcus, two of the first major retailers to arrive in Friendship Heights decades ago, are having liquidation sales this fall. Mazza Gallerie, the mall anchored by Neiman Marcus, facing foreclosure, was sold at auction this summer. Even some smaller tenants, including a McDonald's, have since closed.
