A new survey of vacancies along the 244 blocks of Broadway found 335 street-level vacant storefronts, compared to 188 in 2017.

WESTPORT, CT — An elderly Westport woman was the driver of a car that crashed into a storefront on Railroad Place Tuesday afternoon, according to Westport police.
The 2 p.m. crash not only damaged the building, but also damaged a vehicle parked nearby. The driver, who was not identified by police, was not injured in the crash, nor was anyone inside, according to officials.
The crash is under investigation by the police department, but no charges have been filed against the driver, police officials said. Fire officials had said the crash appeared to have occurred "inadvertently."

Local home flower business Sunnyside Plants plans to expand into a storefront at 5340 W. Lawrence Ave. in Jefferson Park hoping to flourish amid a global pandemic and share its passion for unique flowers with the community.
Owner Ann Vo said the storefront space is not officially open for business yet, pending final approvals on licensing from the city, but serves as a showroom and storage space for her current inventory of plants. She said she had signed an 8-month lease so the business will be open until at least April.

MUNCIE, Indiana – Students in Ball State University's Urban Planning program have set up shop in the Muncie Mall to help community leaders develop a Comprehensive Plan for Delaware County.
A former storefront now serves as a community design center where students can host meetings, conduct research and interact with residents as they help build a framework for the community's future.
Financial support for leasing the 8,900 square-foot space came from the City of Muncie, the Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission, the Ball Brothers Foundation and Ball State's own R. Wayne Estopinal College of Architecture and Planning. The Muncie Mall is currently owned by The Woodmont Company and is under new management.
