PG&E cuts power to 172,000 customers to try and prevent more CA wildfires | KTLA

Wildfires churned through bone-dry California on Tuesday after a scorching Labor Day weekend that saw a dramatic airlift of more than 200 people trapped by flames and ended with the state’s largest utility turning off power to 172,000 customers to try to prevent power lines and other equipment from sparking more fires.

Three early morning helicopter flights rescued another 35 people from Sierra National Forest as a fire raged, the California National Guard said.

172,000 PG&E Customers In 22 Counties Have Their Power Cut – CBS Sacramento

In El Dorado County, all schools are closed in the following districts: Camino Union, Gold Oak, Pioneer Union and Placerville Union.

The school posted a message on its website announcing the closure for the day, noting that many families in the area are affected by the outages.

PG&E confirmed that they had shut off power to around 172,000 customers in 22 counties as of early Monday morning.

TECO warns customers of scam with 'new twist' | wtsp.com

TECO said it's heard from about two dozen customers so far about this scam. And, in the past two months, TECO said it's worked with federal officials to shut down about 40 scam numbers.

This scam, TECO said, happens when "aggressive scammers" demand payment through a mobile application to avoid utility disconnection.

"Tampa Electric urges customers to be wary of anyone claiming to be from the utility, either in person or over the phone. Various versions of this scam have affected Tampa Electric – and utilities across the country – for more than eight years," TECO said in a release.

Avista Customers in Pierce Could see Long Wait for Power to be Restored | Idaho |

PIERCE, ID - According to Avista Utilities, crews are assessing and working toward repairing damage caused by the extended wind storm that began Monday morning and lasted into the evening across Avista's Washington and Idaho service territory. As of 9:00 p.m. Monday, Avista had restored power to approximately 14,000 of the more than 36,000 customers who were out of power at the peak of the storm.

By Monday night, all available Avista crews along with 19 contract and 13 vegetation management crews had been deployed in Washington and Idaho to complete the restoration effort, according to the company.

LADWP restores power to more customers, but 32,000 remain without service amid extreme heat wave

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power restored powers to tens of thousands of residents overnight, but 32,000 customers still remained without power Monday afternoon amid what the utility called “one of the worst heat storms ever to hit our City.”

DWP estimated that power would be restored to affected residents about 48 hours from the time an outage started, but the utility warned that time frame could be extended.
