Roving Radish, an award-winning Howard County program that provides healthy meal kits sourced from local farms, has opened its first storefront in Long Reach Village Center. The 4,142 square foot space will have a storefront offering fresh meat, dairy, eggs, and milk from local and regional farms and serve as a kitchen, storage and packing space for the weekly meal kits. County Executive Calvin Ball visited the new space last week with Program Manager, James Zoller.
"Roving Radish is another great addition to the revitalization of Long Reach Village Center and its storefront will serve as a wonderful hub for regional farms to connect with more Howard County residents," said County Executive Calvin Ball. "This program not only fits in with the direction and goals of Long Reach, but provides healthy, locally sourced meal kits that help connect our community and are offered at a discounted price to those in need.

Painting the pandemic void, one storefront at a time
One of the most sobering moments for me at the beginning of the pandemic was walking by Le Central on Bush and seeing the bistro window covered with plywood. Once the popular lunch spot for Willie Brown (who’d play dice with his pals at the table by the window), the bistro’s board-up was the first time I really sensed the fear and emptiness that would soon permeate downtown.
As plywood boards sprung up all over every neighborhood, though, a couple of San Franciscans created a project that truly made lemonade out of all the lemons that 2020 has thrown at us. Within weeks, pedestrians started seeing beautiful murals on plywood boards that covered closed shops and restaurants, starting in Hayes Valley and extending all over town. The project is called Paint the Void , which matches mural artists with shuttered storefronts.

"We sell meal kits in eight locations. You order it online -- it has two dinners for a family of four. Anyone in the community can participate in it and then we also subsidize it for those in need," said James Zoller, director of The Roving Radish.
Four storefronts burn in Hayward structure fire – SFBay
The Hayward Fire Department is investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire Monday that burned four storefronts at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and A Street.
The department received a report of the fire at 5:08 a.m. Three fire engines and an additional truck responded to the scene and had contained and put out the fire around 9:30 a.m., save for a few hot spots, according to fire department spokesman Don Nichelson.
The main storefront affected by the fire was completely gutted while the other three were saved from excessive damage, Nichelson said. The three adjacent structures may still have some water and smoke damage.

Burn Boot Camp, a chain of woman-centric fitness centers, recently leased a 5,306-square-foot storefront in the Kempsville shopping center.
The chain's third Virginia Beach store is expected to open in October, according to franchisee Scott Tobin, who owns nine locations.
Forty-five-minute camps are offered multiple times throughout the day and are comprised of 72 different styles and 15 different formats, according to the Burn Boot Camp website.
