The New York Times has a new theory about the rapid rise of curbside pickup: Consumers really, really miss going to the store — and picking up curbside gives them a reason to get out there, even if they never make it through the front door.
Americans like getting in their cars and driving to the stores, Cowen retail analyst Oliver Chen told the Times.

And a hybrid model that is delivering in terms of filling in the revenue gap the slowdown of physical retail has created. Target reported curbside sales were up 700 percent in Q2, and Best Buy reported a record-breaking $5 billion in online sales revenue, 40 percent of which it reported came care of curbside or in-store pickup.

PG&E: Roughly 50,000 customers in 21 counties could have power shutoff starting Wednesday
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — Pacific Gas and Electric has started warning customers in 21 counties that it may shut off power with Northern California expected to see strong winds and rising temperatures by Wednesday.
Roughly 50,000 PG&E customers could see their power shut off as early as Wednesday afternoon, according to PG&E.
The utility says the 21 counties, which include those in the northern Sierra foothills and the mid and higher elevations of the Sierra, would be: Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Lake, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama and Yuba.
Entergy: Less than 17,300 customers in PA, Mid-County without power as of Monday evening - Port
The total number of residents without power in greater Port Arthur and Mid-County dipped below 17,300 as of 4 p.m. Monday, Entergy officials announced.
Official said there are 17,291 customers without power in areas that include Groves, Nederland, Port Arthur, Port Neches, Sabine Pass snd Taylor Landing.
There are currently 640 workers involved in the restoration effort with additional workers expected to arrive Tuesday.

Entergy Texas reported Monday afternoon that it is about two days away from restoring power to most customers in Southeast Texas with a response that is starting to feel like deja vu during the active hurricane season.
The utility has finished 98% of its damage assessments and has hammered out a timeline for restoration, predicting the rest of customers in Orange will have power by Tuesday afternoon and Port Arthur and Beaumont will follow by Wednesday night.
