The other night, I was feeling a little more tired and burned out than usual. I smelled the candle on my desk to see if I could pick up its scent . What if I was coming down with Covid-19? I got a whiff of pumpkin, but my anxiety about my malaise didn't lessen; I took to Amazon and ordered a bunch of vitamins.
Anticipating a dreary and monotonous winter under lockdown, I've purchased enough books to probably get me through the next decade. And what does it matter if the only person I've been seeing these days is myself in the mirror? That pricey dress will make me feel better, I recently reasoned.

Holiday shopping season is starting earlier than ever
Major retailers including Target, Best Buy and Walmart are offering Black Friday prices at the same time as Amazon Prime Day on Oct. 13 and 14, the e-commerce company's two-day shopping event.
"Prime Day is a shopping holiday," said Best Buy CEO Corie Barry in an interview with NBC News. "That means lots of people are looking for great deals during the shopping holiday and we feel like it's really important for us to play a role."
Best Buy announced on Thursday dozens of deals on Oct. 13 and 14 from its yet to-be-released Black Friday ad, including a 70-inch Samsung 4K Smart TV for $529.99. Walmart is launching an online-only Big Save Event two days before Prime Day through Oct. 15. Target Deal Days will run during Prime Day with deep discounts across electronics, home, and toys along with "Black Friday pricing all November long."

Many other brands are creating their own versions of Prime Day, meaning you can enjoy steep discounts even if you aren't a Prime member. Inspired by China's 11/11 'Single's Day', they've dubbed this new U.S. retail holiday '10/10′.
Ahead, we're rounding up 10 useful everyday apps for 10/10. Better yet, shoppers who use the code OCTSALE20 at checkout can save an additional 20% off their purchase.
Westfield sues L.A. County over indoor shopping restrictions - Los Angeles Times
Indoor shopping centers opened Wednesday as Los Angeles County officials eased pandemic-related restrictions on businesses, but one of the biggest mall operators in the region is suing to stop the county from shutting down centers again.
The owners of Westfield-branded malls, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, filed a proposed class action lawsuit against the county in late September that called for the county to lift prohibitions it called "unlawful and unjustifiable" in part because they are targeted at indoor centers, which were then mostly closed.

Retailers create new 'Black Friday' event to jumpstart holiday shopping early
Only in 2020 does it make sense that there's a new unofficial start to the holiday shopping season — as opposed to Black Friday — and it's online and in October.
Led by retail research and advisory firm Coresight Research and shopping rewards app Shopkick, the event will run from October 9 to 12, ending just before Amazon's two-day Prime Day event kicks off.
"With our research showing most consumers anticipate doing their holiday shopping earlier this year, it's the perfect time to launch," said Deborah Weinswig, Coresight Research's CEO and founder. "The extra time before December will help alleviate every retailer's nightmare in a year involving skyrocketing online sales, order processing, fulfillment, and shipment delays."
