Kingston Storefront Helps Other Emerging Businesses

Tamika Dunkley is heading into her new cafe and market , to prepare for their second week since opening to the Kingston community.

Seasoned Delicious Foods opened their storefront on September 26 after encouragement from supporters who have been buying their spices, sauces and condiments since they started that operation in 2016.

While she stocks the shelves inside, her husband is outside preparing jerk chicken. With the strong, flavorful scents of Jamaica emanating through the air, she is proud to provide a platform for the community to sell their products.

With hits like 'Gritty spanking Trump,' this South Street art shop is surviving against all odds

The South Street Art Mart was only supposed to last for two weeks. At this point, the shop has been vending handmade goods for nearly two years — and not even the coronavirus has been able to stop it.

Originally launched as a pop-up retail storefront during the 2018 holiday shopping season, the local art showcase was so popular that the owners — a married couple who are artists themselves — decided to try to stick around.

They set up a GoFundMe , raised more than $5k and opened a permanent brick and mortar on 4th Street just off South. They offer wares from more than 100 Philly artists, everything from posters and greeting cards to jewelry, pins, clothing and home goods. By early March 2020, sales were better than ever, co-owner Nicole Krecicki said, the shop packed with customers on the daily.

Northern Vessel coffee shop opens in downtown Des Moines St. Kilda

Northern Vessel has begun serving espresso, coffee, pastries and, on the weekends, waffles, out of the storefront at 1013 Locust St. It's the first brick-and-mortar location for Northern Vessel, which has been serving coffee from a cart in downtown Des Moines since July and has rented out its coffee cart for private events since May 2019.

Owner T.J. Rude has shared the St. Kilda kitchen since opening his business. Now he's using the front of the house, as well, after St. Kilda owner Alexander Hall decided to temporarily close the location because of slow business. St. Kilda locations on Southwest Fifth Street downtown, in the East Village and in Valley Junction remain open.
