Facebook will test shopping from Reels later this year - The Verge

Instagram only widely launched its TikTok competitor Reels in August, and it's already looking to monetize the format. The company announced today that it'll start testing shopping within Reels later this year and will also start making shoppable IGTV videos global starting today. Eventually, these IGTV videos will also be available through Instagram Shop , a dedicated page for shopping within the app.

It's unsurprising to see Instagram try to make shopping at thing on Reels, although the rollout timeline seems fast. Still, Facebook has prioritized commerce over the past few years, which could lead to it taking a bigger role in online transactions. The company would normally take a cut from these purchases, but it's holding off on charging these fees through the end of 2020.

Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza shopping mall to be sold to New York developers - Los Angeles Times

New buyers have emerged for Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, a sprawling regional mall that has been a focal point of the South Los Angeles community since shortly after World War II but has struggled for business in recent decades.

New York real estate companies LIVWRK and DFH Partners have been selected by the current owners to acquire the 40-acre property at Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards, the sellers said.

The sale is expected to close before the end of the year. No price was disclosed, but offers to buy the mall earlier this year, including one from Los Angeles developer CIM Group, exceeded $100 million.

10 Amazon Prime Day 2020 Shopping Tips | PCMag

If you know what you want, add it to your cart now. On Prime Day, you'll be able to see at a glance whether your must-have items have been discounted.

Speaking of Whole Foods, if you need to stock your pantry, the Amazon-owned grocery store will get in on the savings, too; stay tuned for details.

While not every brand or specific version of a product will be on sale on Prime Day, there's a good chance you'll find a great deal if you keep your options open . For example, the food processor you've had your eye on might not be discounted during Prime Day, but a very similar model from a competitor might pop up. As long as it has plenty of reviews, a decent average rating, and still serves your needs, it's probably worth pulling the trigger on a good deal.

Pandemic pushes start of holiday shopping earlier than ever before | News, Sports, Jobs - The

NEW YORK (AP) — Add last-minute holiday shopping to the list of time-honored traditions being upended by the coronavirus pandemic. Retailers are kicking off the holiday season earlier than ever this year in hopes of avoiding big in-store crowds and shipping bottlenecks in November and December.

Stores like Best Buy, Macy’s, and Target typically offer their biggest Black Friday deals over Thanksgiving weekend, but now they’re starting them in October so people don’t crowd their stores later, creating a potentially dangerous situation during a pandemic.

The 2020 Holiday Shopping Season Will Set Long-Term Precedents | E-Commerce | E-Commerce Times

It's been well documented in the retail industry that during the last decade e-commerce has encroached on brick-and-mortar sales.

In 2019, for example, consumers spent US$601.75 billion online, compared with $136.4 billion in 2007, according to a Digital Commerce 360 report -- a 77 percent increase.

Not only have total sales skyrocketed, but so has the e-commerce share of total retail sales. Brick-and-mortar shops might not be out of the game quite yet, but the evident growing demand for the variety of items and convenience of buying online certainly looms large.
