When Matthew Johnson started planning to open a business on Palm Avenue in downtown Sarasota, he imagined he would benefit from high-volume foot traffic and tourist activity in the core business district.

When Johnson was ready to welcome customers into his store, SRQ Smoke and Vape Shop, reality was far different than his expectations. The shop opened in June, in the midst of the public health emergency associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

NYC Macy's storefront honors front-line workers

The last year has been a challenging one for New York City, which was among the hardest hit areas in the world for coronavirus cases.

In honor of the front-line workers keeping New York City safe and healthy, Macy's has decorated its storefront at its flagship store in Midtown Manhattan with the theme "Give, Love and Believe."

The tradition of decorating the storefront dates back 146 years. Macy's installed social distancing markers in front of the mural to space onlookers.

Car crashes into Surrey storefront, hits cyclist near City Hall - BC | Globalnews.ca

Surrey RCMP are investigating after a car hit a cyclist, then crashed into a storefront near City Hall Saturday night.

Mounties said the driver, an elderly man, was seen “accelerating” through the intersection.

The car took out a street sign, before crashing into a person on a bike near the entrance of a fast food restaurant.

Several Lake Geneva downtown businesses have decorated their storefront windows to participate in the Business Improvement District's window display competition, which will be judged in four categories: community choice, social media favorite, best use of merchandise and best overall display.

The winners will be announced Dec. 19, and the window displays will be up in the participating business' windows through, Dec. 29.

The Farmstand, 707W. Main St., decorated their holiday window display with a variety of items including a gingerbread house, candy canes, Christmas stockings and a large Santa head.
