Business moves from online to storefront | News, Sports, Jobs - Salem News

Shawna Roberts, owner of Quakertown Outlet, 277 E. State St., Salem, displays some of the licensed merchandise she has available for purchase, including the Ohio State tiki totem and team mascot statues she's holding. The downtown store features a variety of products for everyone, some unique that can't be found anywhere else in Salem. The product list includes face masks, hats, gloves, flags, toys, soaps, sanitizers, home decor, signs, scented candles, tools, clocks, tumblers and more.

SALEM — When Shawna Roberts decided to move her business to a storefront instead of meeting online customers in area parking lots, Quakertown Products came to be last month.

From Vacant To Vibrant: Art Pop-Up Fills A Newbury Street Storefront | The ARTery

With Christmas right around the corner, Newbury Street is missing its usual crowds of holiday shoppers. For blocks, it's just roadwork and masked residents walking dogs in sweaters nicer than mine, and then, in what would otherwise be another grey window in a long line of quiet storefronts and empty patios, a vibrant scene of an artist squatting in a vacant space.

Sam Fish is a local painter and creator of EXIT Galleries , a series of pop-ups that take advantage of Boston's vacant real estate. He has permission to be there.

Dani Gansen, co-owner of Brin & Lew in Clear Lake, helps a customer Friday afternoon at their storefront in downtown Clear Lake. The boutique was formerly known as The Lion Shop.

For Amber Roske and Dani Gansen, it all started with a conversation at their second grade sons' baseball game seven years ago.

At the time, the women, both new to the Clear Lake area and organized youth athletics, saw a need among their school's fan base.

No storefront? No problem. These Philadelphia bakeries are thriving online.

The pandemic has shed a new light on — and given rise to — local bakeries without brick-and-mortar locations.

Claire Kopp McWilliams loves farmers markets "in a big-picture way," she says. So in 2018, when Kopp McWilliams, head baker and miller at Vetri Cucina, was offered a spot at the Fairmount farmers market, she jumped at it — even though her bakery didn't exist yet.

Thus was born Ursa Bakery, a sourdough-driven affair that has become her full-time gig since she secured a second weekly spot, at the East Falls farmers market.
