"It was part of a deal, and I guess I didn't read the fine print close enough," said Stewart, 22, a recent college graduate.
"I love Rihanna and her products," she said. "So I was really surprised and was like I guess won't be shopping there anymore."
But customers are catching on and complaining more volubly that they're being charged for things they say they never meant to buy. Because of the prevalence of fraud in online shopping, banks and credit card companies have long had customer-friendly policies that make it relatively easy to contest suspicious or unwanted charges and get refunds. The cost of the refunds traditionally has fallen on merchants.

Postal service delays vex Lancaster County business, customers; 'They're not reliable' | Local
Postal service delivery vehicles leave the Lancaster Carrier Annex 1301 Marshall Ave. in Manheim Township shortly before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020.
After shipping out about 100 packages using the postal service since Black Friday, Chapel Hill Forge in Conestoga began a holiday break this week.
When the family-owned blacksmith, metal fabricator and sign carving businesses regroups after New Year's Day, they'll consider some changes. Namely, getting someone other than the U.S. Postal Service to handle their shipping.
McLaren Built the 218-MPH Sabre With Direct Customer Feedback
McLaren flew the proto-Sabre to SoCal in order to get feedback from the 15 lucky buyers, who presumably liked what they saw, since all 15 cars are already spoken for. Pricing has not been released, but consider that the Senna, when it was for sale, went for around a million dollars or so, depending on exchange rates. So add a healthy pile of Pounds Sterling to that and you might be close to the sticker price.
In addition to that crazy 218 mph top speed the new car boasts the most powerful non-hybrid McLaren twin-turbo V8 engine to date, with 824 bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That 218-mph maximum speed makes it the fastest-ever two-seater McLaren.
How To Build A Customer Service Culture With A 'Default Of Yes'
All great companies have this ethos of "the answer is going to be yes; I just need to find out what your question is." As my favorite salesperson at Nordstrom puts it, it's a "culture of get-it-done, for the customer, regardless of what they're asking for," as opposed to "a culture of making excuses and finding reasons the request is unreasonable." Or, as Joe Rood at Audi of America puts it, "it's a culture of never saying no, but instead saying, "here's what we can do."
