"As you can see, there are a lot of people that are out, shopping at the last minute," says Yvette Nelson, of St. Paul, waiting for a curbside order at the Roseville Best Buy. "I'm just waiting for one little thing and hopefully they'll find it and get it to me really quickly here."

Retailers brace for flood of returns from online shopping - CentralMaine.com

NEW YORK — A huge surge in online shopping during the pandemic has been a savior for retailers, but it comes at a price.

Shoppers are expected to return twice as many items as they did during last year’s holiday period, costing companies roughly $1.1 billion, according to Narvar Inc., a software and technology company that manages online returns for hundreds of brands.

Retailers don’t want the returns, but they do want shoppers who may not feel safe going to stores to be comfortable buying things they haven’t seen or tried on in person.

"This is the last possible option for me. We tried lots of other stores but this was it. I have to make it work", Rosie Jackson said.

Forget about the perfect gift, on Christmas Eve, it's any gift at all. For instance, how about a pink plastered piggy bank with the Texas flag on it.
