How to balance customer satisfaction and profitability

"The better you treat customers, the more likely they are to come back and recommend your services, increasing the profit," some might say. However, the world isn't black-and-white, and when it comes to business strategies, there's more to this than a seemingly obvious causal connection.

On the one hand, an entrepreneur would prefer to run a highly profitable business with a low customer satisfaction rate than vice versa. On the other hand, levels of positive customer experience tend to decrease globally, as companies deliver better services and users get accustomed to these new standards almost instantly.

Axel Arigato's founders on the importance of listening to customers

Axel Arigato co-founders Albin Johansson and Max Svärdh have worked from the bottom-up, in the literal sense.

“The footwear market — that’s where we saw the gap,” Svärdh said on the Glossy Podcast.

But like many companies that start out with just one kind of product, shoes were just the entry point into a broader slate of products, which now include head-to-toe clothing items and a range of accessories. “This is where we’ll create, hopefully, some brand awareness, and then we’ll explore with other categories,” Svärdh said about the founders’ reasoning when launching the brand in 2014.

SolarWinds hides list of high-profile customers after devastating hack - The Verge

The list of vulnerable companies is much smaller than SolarWinds' overall client list, so simply appearing on the list doesn't mean a company has been affected. SolarWinds claims that only 33,000 companies use the Orion product, compared to its total client base of 330,000. Out of that 33,000, the company estimates that fewer than 18,000 were directly impacted by a malicious update, and the list of directly targeted companies is likely even smaller.

SolarWinds' overall client list includes a broad range of sensitive organizations. Before its removal, the page boasted a broad range of clients, including more than 425 of the companies listed on the Fortune 500 as well as the top 10 telecom operators in the United States. In an article on Monday , The New York Times cited a number of organizations as vulnerable that are not cited on the public client page, including Boeing and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Massachusetts regulators file manipulation complaint against Robinhood

Massachusetts regulators filed a complaint against Robinhood on Wednesday, accusing the popular trading app of failing to act in the best interests of its users.

The complaint cites Robinhood's "aggressive tactics to attract inexperienced investors, its use of gamification strategies to manipulate customers, and its failure to prevent frequent outages and disruptions on its trading platform."

The complaint is the first enforcement of Massachusetts' Fiduciary Rule, which Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin began enforcing in September.
