Joliet museum puts new meaning to shopping local | The Herald-News

Shop local this weekend without ever leaving your car - or having to wrap the gifts when you get home, either.

The Joliet Area Historical Museum gift store is offering a special in-person shopping day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday.

Here how it works. Pull up to the museum's circle drive at 204 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet, call 312-978-1282, and then museum representatives will shop for you while you remain in your car. Payment will be by credit card.

This may worth something:

Out shopping and wondering where to eat?

So you're out shopping, you're busy, it's coming up on dinner time... where do you go? Well, Bobcat Bonnies is a neighborhood spot that has something for everyone, and luckily, they are in a lot of different neighborhoods including Wyandotte, the Corktown neighborhood in Detroit, Ypsilanti, Ferndale, and Partridge Creek Mall in Clinton Township.

"A lot of great higher-end restaurants were opening up at the time, and I was looking for something a little more approachable and a little more casual," explains Buskard.

Do smartphone apps really find you the best deal while holiday shopping?

Using the ShopSavvy app on a smartphone, we scanned the product's bar code, or UPC symbol, and the app scanned prices at other stores online.

Buy Via offered coupons, and it also showed how much Baby Yoda was going for on eBay, which averaged $33.99.

"These apps can be really useful," said Chris Minnick, who teaches app development at the University of Central Florida.

He said these apps, and others like them, collect these prices electronically from retailers all across the nation and online, and then, they put them in the palm of your hand, usually for free.

Shopping is coming to Instagram Reels globally, turning the whole app into a catalog - The Verge

Shopping is important to Instagram, and Facebook more broadly, as it looks to diversify its revenue. Ads are the primary way both platforms make money, but shopping presents an opportunity to profit off sales fees. In Instagram's case, people already look for product inspiration, so giving them the option to buy directly from the app streamlines that process. It even completely redesigned the home screen to emphasize shopping and Reels.

Meanwhile, TikTok is partnering with Shopify to launch new shopping features, including a test that would let Shopify users tag stores in their videos with a "shop now" button. Reels only widely launched in August and is already being used for shopping, which speaks to just how important commerce is to the company and how badly it wants to beat TikTok to the punch.

Duty Free Shopping Is Ending at British Airports - InsideHook

As reported by the travel site Paddle Your Own Kanoo, the British government is halting most duty free shopping for international travelers. And out-of-country visitors who are leaving will no longer get tax refunds at airports if they’ve bought goods at British shops.

There are a few exceptions, including tobacco and alcohol, though those duty-free options will only be extended to passengers who are continuing on to EU countries. As well, passengers can get tax-free shopping on other goods if they have their shopping delivered direct to their home address.

6 Simple Fashion Trends on Our 2021 Shopping Wish List | Who What Wear

Comfortable footwear is key, and that's why a cushy clog is at the top of my list. The silhouette is trend-forward and will make for a great house shoe option.

Tailoring for 2021 gets even more relaxed. The idea of a fresh oversize blazer to enhance my WFH vibes when I need to be more dressed up for Zoom meetings feels so right.

While I personally wear skinny jeans on the regular (often darker washes), those light-wash styles in loose cuts feel incredibly modern.

Jefferson Parish business leaders push local shopping, fearful of more COVID-19 restrictions

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Gearing up for the holiday season, Jefferson Parish business leaders say they're in a better place than they thought they'd be considering the surge in new COVID-19 cases.

While they're still pushing folks to shop local, there's still a concern for more restrictions in the future.

With only a couple of weeks left until Christmas, shoppers are leaving their homes to finish their lists.

"I'm almost done, I have a few more gifts to buy. Just left the mall and it's not too terrible over there, so I think I have two or three more gifts and I'm all done," Sherry Liljeberg said.
