Making sure climate solutions don't make more problems - Marketplace

We’ve been looking at how technology can help us adapt to climate change as part of our series “ How We Survive .” One big problem is the technology that could help us survive is not being evenly distributed.

Environmental justice is the idea that the effects of climate change are disproportionately felt in poor countries, poor communities, and often by people of color.

So building resilience can't only be about one home, one tribal chapter, one town at a time. Melissa Roberts is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit American Flood Coalition. She says some people and communities will be able to pay to lift their homes or take other measures to avoid floodwaters. "And those with the least means who are often in harm's way already won't be able to do those things," Roberts said.

The Good and Bad of Building Your Own Enterprise B2B Marketplace

We're all used to digital marketplaces as one of the quickest ways to get goods. Think of Amazon and Aliexpress. They all thrive because of the sheer demand of consumers across the world. But the truth is that online marketplaces aren't only for B2C companies. B2C companies can also use enterprise marketplaces as a pathway for total digitalization.

According to Gartner , by 2023, at least 70% of the enterprise marketplaces launched will serve B2B transactions. Similarly, according to Forrester , in the US, B2B eCommerce transactions are expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2023, accounting for at least 17% of all B2B sales in the country, which will create a new business model and ecosystem for companies willing to make the leap.

They've got a startup idea and a vision that inspires them to wake up every morning and push through the difficult times so that their dream can become a reality. Historic Detroit marketplace to find third home at Greenfield Village

The Vegetable Building, part of a long-gone marketplace once located near Old City Hall, will be moved to Greenfield Village. While the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the installation, the facility hopes to see the building up by the end of 2021.

Greenfield Village had been raising funds for the building's reconstruction for years, including this past Giving Tuesday. The project has recently broken ground, finally finishing its fundraising. It has raised over $5 million since the beginning of the project, almost ten years ago.

Job gains slow in November as pandemic hampers recovery - Marketplace

The American economy added 245,000 nonfarm jobs in November, far fewer than the 610,000 the month before, according to the U.S. Labor Department.

Unemployment fell a tad, to 6.7%. But most of that drop occurred because about 400,000 workers left the workforce.

The number of adults not in the labor force, which refers to people who are neither working nor actively seeking work, rose by 560,000. The number of Americans who are currently not working but say they want a job was 2.2 million higher than it was in February.
