Coronavirus, which slowed Americans' shopping to a crawl, certainly played a part in their fall—and left many of the brands, stores and factories that had relied on these once-beloved "close-out retailers" holding a surfeit of new clothes that no one was really buying.
An intriguing new solution for selling overstock, off-season clothing has emerged, however. Two upstart companies— Heat , founded in London in November 2019; and Scarce , launched in New York in December 2020—offer so-called "luxury mystery boxes" that contain clothing items pulled from the surplus stock of boutiques, brands like Moncler, Balenciaga and Off-White, and even factories. Collectively, the items originally retailed for two to three times as much, on average, as the box's price.

The Harlem Crossings shopping center at 19800 S. Harlem Ave. in Frankfort Square welcomed two new businesses last week when a Dollar Tree discount store and a Pizza Pete restaurant opened their doors.
The 48,000-square-foot shopping center was built in 2006 and consists of two buildings. The plaza had been moribund for most of its existence.
That all started to change late last year when Amazon began construction on a massive distribution center kitty-corner from the shopping center in neighboring Matteson.

The remnants of a shopping center from years gone by are setting the stage for new development at a busy Henrico crossroads.
Richmond developers Spy Rock Real Estate and Crescent Development are planning a multiuse development with 580 homes on the site of the former Henrico Plaza Shopping Center on Mechanicsville Turnpike just north of Laburnum Avenue.

CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. (WLUC) -An Iron County business is bringing art to the area. The Twisted Twig is a gift shop, but also an art studio.
"When I bought the building I wanted a place that I could sell my things," said Maureen Bromley, the owner.
That's why Bromley opened up the business at 336 Superior Avenue, right in the heart of downtown Crystal Falls. She says she teaches art classes through the Crystal Falls Contemporary Center but when COVID-19 hit, that changed.
