A village in the Hamptons has found a way to tackle the empty storefronts blighting its streets: transforming them into mini art galleries.
Local artists supply the work at no cost, but the new law approved by village trustees in July provides them a chance to showcase their talents—and potentially profit from the arrangement by selling their art to window shoppers.
"I think it's an amazing way to activate and reclaim space—especially in towns where there's an offseason," said artist Alice Hope, whose illuminated "Priceless" installation of chromed coat hangers, strung can tabs and shopping tags became the first piece to be featured through the program in July, brightening the front of a former women's clothing store.

The Market at Scottsdale Quarter is once again providing a fully curated retail experience, featuring a collection of handmade artisans, local shops and vintage curators.
Open through April of 2021, The Market is a slightly different concept than the previous pop-up. Various small businesses are still represented, but instead of having individual booths, it is one cohesive storefront that is curated and merchandised by the team at Junk in the Trunk.
Moseley closing storefront, looks back fondly on time at Excursions - The Owensboro Times
Excursions owner Jaye Moseley said that after 36 Christmases, it is time to close her highly popular women's clothing storefront located in Wesleyan Park Plaza.
Moseley, who began her career in retail at Sublett's clothing store, opened J. Bailey's with Julia Bailey inside the Sandpiper — another women's retail store — in 1985 before taking over Excursions in 1990.
"I have weathered a lot of storms," Moseley said about her decision to close her storefront, which she added had nothing to do with the pandemic. "I have weathered this just fine."

A three-alarm fire broke out Saturday night at the Edmondson Village Shopping Center, impacting five businesses, including the Edmondson Pharmacy and Jackson Hewitt tax service.
