My View: Artistic serendipity in a shopping cart | Opinion | buffalonews.com

At a local bargain outlet, amid the clutter of merchandise, a child's book with a painting of a little girl dancing through a splashy watercolor garden caught my eye. I figured it would make an ideal gift for my grandniece, Audrey, who is just shy of 3 years old.

Thanks to advances in technology, today we have a vast array of materials and art media at our fingertips with new goodies arriving weekly so Frankenthaler's work, done in the 1950s to early 1960s, looked a tad pale and somewhat dated compared to what people, from scrapbookers to serious artists, are doing nowadays with no holds barred.

Art & Antiques by Dr. Lori: Tips for profitable thrift store shopping

I was video chatting with a client who was showing me his finds from a thrift store shopping spree.

He asked me a question that many people ask at my events or during my video chat sessions about shopping for antiques at thrift stores, estate sales and yard sales. He wanted to know: "What should I be looking for?"

It is a typical question. The answer is not as straightforward. There is no one "correct" answer. I usually answer "look for quality" but that isn't always easy for novices and other newbies to the antique world to recognize. Quality is evident in different ways in different objects.

Shopping beyond Amazon: Where to buy books online | Tom's Guide

Have you ever gone online to do your shopping and stopped to think how much stuff you actually buy from Amazon? The world's biggest retailer sells just about everything these days, whether you're after a new book, a games console, or something incredibly specific like a part for your lawn mower.

As convenient as that can be, Amazon is far from a perfect company. It's been criticized repeatedly for its workplace practices, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, which may leave you wondering whether you should support that with your wallet. Plus, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has more money than any individual could ever hope to spend — he definitely doesn't need more of yours.
