Mattie's Strudel Haus, offering a wide array of authentic Hungarian strudels, opened Friday in a remodeled storefront at 126 W. Main St., next to The Bath Exchange.

Skyrocketing demand for the hand-stretched treats, available in sweet and savory varieties, led her to seek a larger space in the form of her own storefront.

When Ray Ameripour opened Classic Collection Hats on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard over a decade ago, his neighbors stopped by with well wishes and baked goods. It made him feel an immediate connection to the neighborhood, one that would only grow over time.

He loved how vibrant Hawthorne felt as Portlanders and tourists alike flocked to the area, drawn to the eclectic shops and local restaurants that have long made the district one of the city's premier shopping destinations.

Brick removal on Cincinnati building reveals Victorian-era storefront

Crews dismantling the brick façade of an old retail building on Race Street uncovered a Victorian-era storefront that hasn't been seen in 70 years.

The Chong Inc., the quirky retailer located at 616 Race St., Downtown, that sold a hodgepodge of urban clothing, knickknacks and age-old electronics in their original packaging and seemed to always have "store closing" signs outside, actually did close last March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp.'s OTR Holdings Inc. purchased the building last year as part of redevelopment along Race Street.
