Starbucks is on pace to fully recover from the pandemic by the end of March in its U.S. business, where same-store sales are down just 2% in January, the company said on Tuesday.
The company can thank its loyal customers for that. Membership in the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program grew by 2.5 million members to a record 21.8 million—15% higher than in the same quarter a year ago.
Those customers spent more money. Starbucks Rewards members accounted for half of U.S. company-operated sales in the chain's fiscal first quarter ended Dec. 27—up from 43% a year ago. In other words, loyal customers have been the driving force behind the chain's improvement in its sales over the course of the pandemic.

How James David Power Made Detroit, and Customers, Raise the Standard for Quality - Forbes Wheels
It's a name millions of American car buyers have learned to trust and one the auto industry approaches with a mixture of respect and fear.
Over the past half-century a company that started out at the kitchen table became the arbiter of automotive quality, reliability and customer satisfaction. This past weekend, the man who lent his name to J.D. Power and Associates passed away at 89.
With wife Julie as partner, Power put a mortgage on their new home in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas and launched their own market research firm from the kitchen table. That was 1968, when the U.S. Big Three (GM, Ford, Chrysler) had 87% combined market share and General Motors six years earlier had a record 51% share. (In 2020, the Big Three had 43% combined share and GM share was 17%.)

AT&T customers can now text Kingsport 911 | WJHL | Tri-Cities News & Weather
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Some cellular phone customers can now send text messages to Kingsport 911.
The police department announced Wednesday the service is now available to AT&T Wireless customers.
Other carriers, such as Verizon and T-Mobile, are expected to enable this service in the near future.
The police department says calling is still the preferred method for contacting 911. Just like when calling 911, text messages should only sent for true emergencies. Non-emergency calls should be made to central dispatch at the phone number 423-246-9111, which cannot receive text messages.
