Why is GameStop stock soaring right now?- Marketplace

By now, you've probably seen the phrases "GameStop stock," "r/wallstreetbets," "short squeeze" and a swirl of other financial jargon. Here's the short explanation of what's going on: Wall Street hedge funds were hoping to make a profit off of GameStop stock falling, but Reddit posters thwarted their plans by pumping up the price.

GameStop's stock has increased astronomically this month, closing at $347.51 on Wednesday — a far cry from record lows under $4 when the pandemic started. Tuesday, it was the most traded equity "on the planet" with $20 billion in volume , according to Bloomberg's senior exchange-traded fund analyst, Eric Balchunas.

In most states, the Open Enrollment period for 2021 Marketplace coverage ended on December 15, 2020. Plan selections in states that use the federally facilitated exchange (HealthCare.gov) were up by about 6% compared to the previous year, due in large part to high rates of consumers renewing their coverage. Plan selections among new consumers were down relative to the previous year, though, which was somewhat surprising given the sustained levels of unemployment during the pandemic.

Somerset County Announces Innovative Shared Services Marketplace For Municipalities And County |

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerset County is launching the Somerset County Marketplace , an innovative online tool to help county municipalities share services and equipment with each other. Commissioner Melonie Marano conceived of Marketplace based on her earlier experience as Mayor of Green Brook, and worked with Somerset County's Web Team and Public Works departments to develop the project during 2020.

"I know from my time on the Green Brook Township Committee that municipalities are always looking for ways to save taxpayers' money, and as a Commissioner I wanted to make it easier for towns to do so by sharing services with each other," said Commissioner Marano. "We looked around for examples we could copy, but couldn't find any so we built it ourselves. Now in addition to supporting Somerset County towns and taxpayers, we're hoping to be an example others can copy in the future."

"Marketplace" host Kai Ryssdal spoke with Masha Golovina, director of acquisitions at Masterworks.io, an art investment platform, about how the pandemic has impacted the art market. (Masterworks.io is a “Marketplace” underwriter.)
