CHARLOTTE — Retailers like Belk and Amazon are casting the spotlight on Black History Month by highlighting some North Carolina businesses and colleges.
Charlotte-based department store Belk opened its Culture Shop boutique online featuring underrepresented communities. The site will remain active year-round.
Belk is celebrating Black culture this month by highlighting beauty and cosmetic products that offer an assortment of shades for a variety of skin tones, plus T-shirts and apparel for historically Black colleges and universities.

N ewport Beach resident Catherine Rex started Rex Design in 2016. Now her pieces are sold throughout the country and in local boutiques such as Daydream Surf Shop in Costa Mesa and restaurants including San Juan Capistrano's Mayfield, which is also home to Rex's mural. In September, Rex opened her first brick-and-mortar shop, which houses her studio as well as a small boutique in the front. Customers can either make an appointment to shop Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man tossed a brick through a door and broke the wall of an adjacent storefront to burglarize a restaurant on Forest Avenue in Mariners Harbor early on Monday morning, police said.
The break-ins were reported at about 12:40 a.m. at Dominican Food and what appears to be a vacant storefront next door in the strip mall on the 2100 block of Forest Avenue, according to police.

It's a locally owned, family run business, operated by two couples who are proud cannabis consumers – eager to share their knowledge and join the legal market.

The Vandermarliere family, the owner of J. Cortès and Oliva, has made an investment in Brandshopper, the Pennsylvania-based company that owns cigarpage.com.
Brandshopper was founded by Keith Meier, one of the founders of Cigars International, and includes cigarpage.com, an online cigar storefront; wingsupply.com, an online hunting storefront; and fieldsupply.com, an online outdoors storefront.
Meier co-founded Cigars International in 1996. It was sold to Swedish Match in 2007 and is now owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.

The already festive building at 4536 Magazine St. where Nola Flora is located is eye-catching enough, but it just got enhanced.
Their storefront float theme is the shop's name and it features giant flowers and a flowering vine going up the front and side of the building.
