Middlebury, VT, $10,000 Empty Storefront Grants – NECN

Entrepreneurs could get $10,000 to open a business in Middlebury, Vermont, through a new program that aims to fill vacant storefronts downtown.

"I look at it as opportunity," said Lisa Phelps, the owner of a Middlebury salon called Parlour. "Small businesses are part of the community — it's what keeps us thriving."

Phelps has been imagining what new businesses would be a good fit for the college town, such as a juice bar, clothing boutique or a family restaurant.

City of South Bend helping businesses' "digital storefronts" with federal COVID-19

In this July 2018 photo, Code Works staff are seen working in their South Bend offices shortly after they opened. The Mayor James Mueller administration on Tuesday announced a partnership with the company to provide digital help to businesses that apply by April 2.

The city of South Bend will use its COVID-19 relief fund to help businesses connect digitally with customers.

In the "Small Business Digital Storefront" program, the city has contracted to pay $50,000 to Code Works, a local digital products studio, to help businesses update their web presence.

No injuries after car crashes through storefront in Saskatoon | CBC News

A driver has been ticketed, but no one was injured after a car crashed into a store in Saskatoon on Tuesday.

A Honda Civic crashed into the storefront of the SaskMade Marketplace on Eighth Street E. at approximately 11:30 a.m.

"We've had a bit of a oops today at the store," the store said in a Facebook post about an hour after the crash.

A spokesperson for the Saskatoon Police Service said the driver of the vehicle was attempting to pull into a parking spot when she accidentally accelerated through the window of the store.
