How the American Rescue Plan Act Affects Subsidies for Marketplace Shoppers and People Who Are

The March 2021 COVID-19 relief legislation, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), extends eligibility for ACA health insurance subsidies to people buying their own health coverage on the Marketplace who have incomes over 400% of poverty. The law also increases the amount of financial assistance for people at lower incomes who were already eligible under the ACA. Both provisions are temporary, lasting for two years, retroactive to January 1, 2021.

In this brief, we use data from the American Community Survey (ACS) to provide estimates of eligibility for and the amount of financial assistance to purchase Marketplace coverage under the ARPA among both current individual market purchasers, as well as Marketplace-eligible uninsured people.

How SPACs help companies go public without an IPO - Marketplace

WeWork, the titan of co-working office space, is going public …. again. You might recall it failed to launch a traditional initial public stock offering, or IPO, back in 2019. This time things are different, though, because it's not launching an IPO at all. It's going public through something called a SPAC, or special purpose acquisition company.

SPACs are incredibly popular these days. They even have celebrity branding: Tennis star Serena Williams is on the board of a SPAC. Former House Speaker Paul Ryan too. But what are they, exactly?

Marketplace health insurance deadline is extended | News | themountaineer.com

The COVID-19 relief plan, now called the American Rescue Plan, makes several important changes to the ACA Marketplace Insurance program.

New calculations of premium tax credits can provide significant financial help starting May. The increase in tax credits means consumers will pay less out of pocket for their share of the premium starting with their May 1, 2021 bill.

Consumers who are already enrolled should update their applications in April to get the new lower premium starting in May. Lower out of pocket premiums may help some people buy a silver or gold plan with lower deductibles and out-of-pocket maximum. During this special open enrollment ending Aug. 15, people can change plans if they think better options are now affordable.

Walmart Expands Marketplace, Challenging Amazon | Practical Ecommerce

Walmart's U.S. ecommerce sales in the last quarter of 2020 increased by 69 percent year-over-year while its total sales grew only 7.3 percent. The message is clear: future growth will depend on ecommerce.

Emboldened by a pandemic-driven increase in digital sales, Walmart has decided to challenge Amazon's dominance in the ecommerce arena. Walmart is presumably the only retailer with the financial resources, logistical prowess, and size to do this.
