Tweets are selling for millions as NFTs. We decided to see what all the buzz is about.

This week, Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey auctioned off his first ever tweet for $2.9 million for charity. Dorsey sold the tweet as a non-fungible token, or NFT , which is a unique digital asset with data stored on the blockchain. NFTs have been growing in popularity recently and can represent digital art , videos, or tweets. There has been some discussion over whether NFTs are a passing fad or here to stay as a way for creators to make money.

Changes To The Healthcare Marketplace Subsidy Provide Retroactive Help For Taxpayers

For qualifying taxpayers, the ARPA provision that exempts the first $10,200 of unemployment benefits from adjusted gross income (AGI) could have reduced AGI to the point where the APTC repayment, if there was one, was capped. But repayment has become a moot point for tax year 2020 with the changes to the subsidy introduced by the new law. Additional changes provide a different kind of help for tax years 2021 and 2022.

First, the ARPA eliminates repayment of excess APTC for all taxpayers for tax year 2020. If you received too much APTC for tax year 2020, no harm, no foul, and no repayment necessary. Second, for tax years 2021 and 2022 your portion of your marketplace payments will be lower (less out of pocket for you) and even if your household income exceeds 400% of the FPL you are still potentially eligible for the APTC.

Research suggests we're misperceiving the inequality around us - Marketplace

How well do you know your class? Would you consider yourself lower-, middle- or upper- class? What about your neighbors,’ your co-workers’ or your friends’ class status?

Recent research suggests people’s perceptions of their own economic status, as well as the status of people in their social or work circles, aren’t as accurate as they might think.

“The goal of this was to see how, where we think we stand relative to others, shapes our views on fairness and what ultimately should be done about inequality,” said Harvard economics professor Stefanie Stantcheva, who co-authored the study.

Who's going to buy Robinhood stock after an IPO? - Marketplace

Robinhood, the company popular with entry-level investors, has filed the confidential paperwork with regulators to eventually sell its own stock to the public. No word yet on when an IPO would happen for the company, which has been at the center of a battle between online retail investors and institutional investors over companies such as GameStop and AMC Entertainment.

When Reddit fueled a buying frenzy of those shares this year, many bought using the Robinhood app for free. If it’s free, how does Robinhood make its money, and what are risks for those who might buy an eventual Robinhood share?

mRNA technology might kick-start a new age of vaccines - Marketplace

The COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer are, in many ways, modern miracles. As you know by now, they were developed using technology called messenger RNA, or mRNA, which basically gives the body instructions to create antibodies for the novel coronavirus.

Andrew Hessel: Because mRNA vaccines ultimately use our bodies as a pharmaceutical plant, we can target essentially any virus where we can make any type of an antibody to it. And so it opens up the possibilities for making vaccines for emerging short-term viruses, like Zika, even Ebola. But I think the one that will get really targeted in the short term is simply flu. We have an annual flu season that, for the last 100 years, we haven’t been able to get ahead of.

The Suez Canal block could hit 'downstream' manufacturers the hardest - Marketplace

A 1,300-foot-long, 200-foot-wide container ship stuck in the middle of the Suez Canal has brought one of the world’s busiest trade routes to a stop. Efforts to move the enormous ship, the Ever Given, have so far been in vain.

* * *

Kai Ryssdal: I have to tell you, the first thing I thought when I saw the pictures of this ship turned sideways in the canal — other than “How the heck did that happen?” — was, “Wow, the global supply chain is really, really fragile if this can block up a major artery.”
