Shopping Local – Marquette Wire

After a year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and protests for racial equality, shopping locally has become increasingly important – specifically, in support of small business owners of color. Marquette students can support these businesses and try something new by safely giving them a visit.

From vintage T-shirts to art classes, Milwaukee has a wide variety of stores that not only provide consumers with new experiences but also bring a sense of community to the city.

Meijer sheds light on COVID year-one shopping trends | Supermarket News

On-demand services, fast checkout, convenient meal solutions, home decor and recreation were among the top shopping trends tallied by supercenter retailer Meijer after passing the one-year mark of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meijer said yesterday that home delivery and pickup services doubled at stores over the past 12 months. Another digital option also took hold: Customers used the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer's Shop & Scan technology more than 100 million times to maintain social distancing and lessen time spent in the store.

How to save money while shopping on Amazon

Money savings expert Andrea Woroch recommends deleting your payment information from your Amazon account as a way to keep from overspending.

"The time it takes for you to go get your credit card, re-enter those details, that may be enough time for you to realize, 'Oh, wait, what am I doing here? I really don't need this item right now,'" Woroch said.

Other ways to shop and save on Amazon include buying used items, but make sure they're in good condition. Check out Amazon's outlet store because it can offer thousands of marked down, overstocked items. You can also consider refurbished deals.

Shopping Trolleys Show Pent-Up Party Spirits — Heard on the Street | Morningstar

A year into the worst health crisis in modern history, French Champagne, chocolate novelties and tequila have all shot up consumers' grocery lists. Current trends bode well for liquor stocks, less so for some of the early winners of the pandemic.

This time last year, shoppers were panic buying after the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic on March 11. Supermarket shelves were stripped of essentials such as toilet paper, dried pasta, hand sanitizer and canned soup. Staples companies such as Lysol-maker Reckitt and paper-products giant Kimberly-Clark initially struggled to meet demand.

Direct-to-consumer brands have proliferated as companies seek to change our shopping habits in home, fashion, and more—and save us money by cutting out mark-ups.

For many of us, it started with a mattress: Casper wasn't the first bed-in-a-box , but it was the first to become widely known. With its one-perfect-mattress ethos, we learned another thing, too: We were paying way too much for mattresses. And, as it turns out, a lot of other things too.
