Exchange extends shopping privilege to defense civilians | News | theredstonerocket.com
Starting last week, Department of Defense and Coast Guard civilian employees can now shop in-store at the Exchange.
"Shopping the Exchange brings convenience to civilians working on installations," Exchange Director and CEO Tom Shull said in a press release. "They can stop by the Exchange for essentials on breaks or to and from work instead of shopping outside of the gate – and 100% of Exchange earnings go right back to the military community."
The move will grant access to about 575,000 stateside civilian employees and Shull said the stores have the capacity and merchandise available to handle the expanded customer base. This is the third time since 2017 that the Exchange’s shopping base has increased. On Nov. 11, 2017, all honorably discharged veterans were granted access to shop tax-free at shopmyexchange.com and in January 2020 veterans with service-connected disabilities gained in-person shopping privileges.
TikTok is reportedly pulling a Facebook and adding in-app shopping - The Verge
TikTok's next move to compete with Facebook might be to add an in-app shopping feature, according to a new report from Bloomberg . The publication writes that TikTok is testing in-app sales in Europe by partnering with several brands, including UK-based streetwear company Hype.
The Hype account page currently does show what looks like a shopping section (though it's blank for my US account) and the company did confirm to Bloomberg that it was participating in the test. We've also reached out to TikTok for further confirmation the shopping test is happening.

Old Big Lots shopping center in Staunton's west end could become storage units if rezoned
Staunton City Council will be holding a public hearing on potentially changing the zoning for the west end shopping center this Thursday.
The shopping center has been a big point of discussions for several years. It's been essentially empty since 2019, leaving the west end of the city with a gaping hole in retail and development opportunities.
At that time he said he either wants it gone, wants to try to sell to an apartment developer or transform the buildings into self-storage. In 2016, he thought the complex could be used for apartments or self-storage units. He considered selling the property numerous times, but property values keep decreasing.
Pet and shopping scams surge during pandemic
Fraudsters posted bogus adverts for pets, cars and caravans to dupe people into handing over money.
Fraud from online shopping was the most common type. The number of cases rose by 44% to 95,531 over the year - a time when many people turned to internet shopping with stores closed during lockdown.
Scammers used social media and other channels to advertise items or pets, often with attractive pictures and prices, that never arrived after a deposit or full price was paid.
