Future of historic monument in middle of shopping center in question - Deseret News

After a bitter battle in the 1990s, a memorial at a Utah historical site in the middle of a Midvale shopping area has again prompted debate about the best way to preserve its pioneer heritage.

Now, the Fort Union area serves as a well-known shopping center that includes parts of Midvale, Cottonwood Heights and Sandy.

The final remnants of the fort remained until the 1990s, when it was demolished for the commercial district now known as Fort Union. The Cox home was believed at that time to be the oldest-standing adobe home in its original location in Utah. The home was dismantled during the construction process after a fight to keep it in its original place failed.

Online shopping leads to mystery - The Advocate-Messenger | The Advocate-Messenger

I must admit that I am a fan of online ordering. Unless I am in dire need of an item, I can order it online and have it delivered to my doorstep in only a few days and I don't have to deal with traffic, screaming kids throwing a tantrum in the store or the cashier who sneezes into her hand and then hands me my receipt. No thank you.

Since I do order things online quite often, I was not surprised when I found a package on my front porch the other day. After all, there are times when watching late night television combined with eating too many cheese doodles leaves me a bit vulnerable to order whatever is for sale on the infomercial whether I need it or not.

BBB Alert: Watch out for online shopping scams on Prime Day | Iredell Free News

Amazon isn't the only retailer rolling out discounts for Prime Day (June 21-22). Walmart, Target and Kohl's, just to name a few, are running competing sales.

But more deals mean more chances for scammers to capitalize on the buzz and trick shoppers. Be wary of phishing scams, misleading advertisements, and look alike websites.

Beware of false advertising and phony websites. When searching online or browsing social media, watch out for ads that point to scam websites. Con artists often create lookalike websites that, at first glance, appear to belong to a trusted retailer. But when you look more closely at the URL, you'll notice that the domain name is slightly different (i.e., Instead of Popularstore.com, the URL might be PopvlarStore.com or PopularStoreOnline.com).
