Out of the Pandemic, a New Marketplace for Native Ingredients - The New York Times

At the two locations of Tocabe, a Denver-area American Indian restaurant, customers have long asked the owners Matt Chandra and Ben Jacobs where to buy the Native and Indigenous ingredients used in the kitchen, like the wild rice in the grain bowls, or the bison for the glazed ribs with berry barbecue sauce.

In May 2020, the men realized they could become the source for those ingredients, leveraging their existing relationships with suppliers to build "an economy that can keep money within Indian country," said Mr. Jacobs, a member of the Osage Nation of Northeast Oklahoma.

The rules for required retirement account withdrawals - Marketplace

At some point in retirement, government rules require people to take some money out of their tax- protected accounts every year, pay the tax or else face penalties. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a temporary hold on this, but these required minimum distributions are now back.

David Brancaccio: All right, so let’s just be clear: What is this required minimum distribution? Some call it the old RMD.

Chris Farrell: OK, so if you have a retirement savings plan, like a traditional IRA or a 401(k), you eventually have to start withdrawing money from the account or the accounts, because the money that goes into these plans, David, it’s pre-tax dollars. So to make sure that your 401(k) doesn’t turn into a permanent tax shelter, when you hit the required age, you must start making withdrawals and pay your ordinary income tax rate on the amount that’s taken out.

In London's Borough Market, importing is a "roller coaster" after Brexit -

When leaders from the G-7 met over the weekend in Cornwall, England, one of the “meatiest” issues revolved around trade disputes between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Despite the former departing the latter at the start of the year, ongoing issues remain, particularly regarding the Northern Ireland border.

Samantha Wallace: I have to say, Kai, it’s been a roller coaster. So we have just done our first post-Brexit pallet with our main beekeeper in Italy. We had been counseled to expect long delays, holdups potentially at customs while things were checked. Surprisingly, it was only a couple of days longer than normal. So that was good. So I sound shocked, but so far it’s been OK.

From Net-a-Porter to Saks, the marketplace model is taking over fashion | Vogue Business

The business model for selling luxury and fashion online could experience rapid transformation as e-concessions and e-consignments are introduced by more retailers. This marketplace model has emerged as a new industry favourite.

The luxury industry has traditionally operated a wholesale model, with retailers ranging from Net-a-Porter to Nordstrom purchasing and holding inventory from brands. While some department stores in Asia, the UK and Europe, such as Selfridges and Galeries Lafayette, operate concession models, they are less common in the US. Now that's changing as retailers turn to e-concessions as a means of broadening their assortment without managing inventory costs.

Will cutting federal unemployment benefits push job growth? - Marketplace

In some states, this is the first week people out of work can't collect the extra $300 in weekly federal unemployment benefits. The benefits expired in Alaska , Iowa , Mississippi and Missouri on Saturday. Will this drive more applicants to jobs that have remained unfilled?

“There's definitely a worker out there who's like, ‘These benefits are great, my job was terrible, I'm going to ride this as far as I can.’ But there's also definitely a person out there who has filed 500 job applications and can't find a job,” said Kathryn Anne Edwards, a labor economist at the Rand Corp.
