A Tectonic Shift in Analytics and Computing Is Coming - Eos

More than 50 years ago, a fundamental scientific revolution occurred, sparked by the concurrent emergence of a huge amount of new data on seafloor bathymetry and profound intellectual insights from researchers rethinking conventional wisdom. Data and insight combined to produce the paradigm of plate tectonics . Similarly, in the coming decade, a new revolution in data analytics may rapidly overhaul how we derive knowledge from data in the geosciences.

Already today, geoscientists must understand modern tools of data analytics and the hardware on which they work. Now AI and HPC, along with cloud computing and interactive programming languages, are becoming essential tools for geoscientists. Here we discuss the current state of AI and HPC in Earth science and anticipate future trends that will shape applications of these developing technologies in the field.

Google Cloud Unified Data Platform | Analytics Hub, Dataplex & Datastream | Datamation

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Google Cloud is unveiling three new products in its portfolio to create a unified data platform.

Google Cloud launched its Analytics Hub for data sharing, Dataplex for data management and Datastream for real-time data replication at its inaugural Data Cloud Summit last week, according to the company.

Google developed the set of products to help enterprises that are "grappling with" how to centrally manage their applications and integrate data in real-time as they contend with "sprawling" data: across databases, data lakes, data warehouses, data marts and on-premises and in multiple clouds.

GE Digital Introduces Digital Smelter Process Analytics | ARC Advisory

Digital Smelter delivers a full analysis of the components within a pot as well as each pot line, providing a Digital Twin to help increase the efficiency of the smelting process. The software also helps operators predict potential process and equipment anomalies and prescribe more effective decisions. These capabilities help to keep operations safer and production more optimal while reducing operator error.

Digital Smelter is able to better predict pot leaks to contribute towards reduction of unplanned stoppages and more optimized pot health. Providing alerts for anomalies, such as pot instability, and undesirable events, such as anode spikes, help to optimize energy consumption and keep the process more reliable. Digital Smelter can also improve the quality of aluminium and reduce raw material consumption by modelling an optimum amount of aluminum fluoride to use in each batch.

Gelman's team was the first Crimson squad to go undefeated in Ivy League competition, with Gelman becoming the only Harvard player to score more than 1,000 career points and hand out more than 475 assists.

Gowanda Grad Joins Eagles' Analytics Team | News, Sports, Jobs - Post Journal

Gowanda native and 2012 graduate Zach Steever took a winding road to get to where he’s recently gotten. Following his graduation from Gowanda High School, he attended the University at Buffalo to pursue a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Steever translated that degree, followed by a master’s in operations research into a job with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League.

Several years ago, this career path may not have been possible at all for someone like Steever, but NFL teams and teams across all sports have transitioned to statistical data to make more informed, fact-based decisions on players, positions and so much else.
