Worcester's Main South awarded $60K for wayfinding, storefront upgrades

WORCESTER — The state has awarded a $60,000 grant aimed at making businesses in Main South easier to navigate and more appealing to passersby.

The funds, part of ongoing efforts to improve the neighborhood's business climate, will provide for wayfinding signs and facade improvements.

"It's very much needed, and it's going to help with everything we're currently trying to do to revitalize the Main South neighborhood," Laura Perez-Garcia, president of the Main South Business Association, said Wednesday.

Former Container storefront could undergo change | Tysons Reporter

After being adapted for emergency uses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the former Container Store in Vienna could undergo another transformation.

The vacant storefront at 8505 Leesburg Pike near the Greensboro Metro station could be used by the Tysons Partnership and Celebrate Fairfax , Fairfax County Department of Economic Initiatives Director Rebecca Moudry told Tysons Reporter.

The building is 19,260 square feet in size and has approximately 95 parking spaces. The Container Store previously used the space before relocating to 8459 Leesburg Pike in 2018.

DTLR installs basketball shoe-inspired mural on storefront in East Baltimore in honor of

BALTIMORE — On Friday, DTLR teamed up with former NFL player Aaron Maybin to install a mural at DTLR's store on Monument Street in East Baltimore.

The mural, which was painted on Friday in honor of Juneteenth, is inspired by the re-release of an iconic basketball and streetwear shoe called FORUM.

This nostalgic shoe is being released from the vault and promotes an open forum for all voices and communities.

The muralist, Aaron Maybin, is a former NFL player and Baltimore native who returned to the city as a Baltimore City school teacher to pursue his passion for art, activism and education.

The District of Kitimat is awarding $5,000 to storefront owners for exterior renovations –

The District of Kitimat will provide 50 per cent of the costs to a maximum of $5,000 to new and existing businesses who have a permanent storefront to improve its appearance or to provide mobility access. 

It has set aside $20,000 this year and non-profits are also eligible for the first-come-first-serve program.

Though the deadline to apply is November 1, two applications have already been received by the district with most applicants usually granted the maximum of $5,000, those interested are being warned to act fast.
