Mayor Jenny A. Durkan issued the following statement regarding  legislation  that allows more flexibility in permitted uses for empty downtown storefronts moving out of the Seattle City Council's Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee.

Beacon Hill Books & Cafe to open new chapter for Charles Street storefront - The Boston Globe

In the window of 71 Charles St. hangs a sign announcing the impending arrival of Beacon Hill Books & Cafe, with a drawing of a bushy, black-and-white squirrel in one corner.

This sense of whimsy is the throughline of Beacon Hill Books, a general interest bookstore slated to open its doors in spring 2022.

MBTA Puts Out Invitation for Bids on Domino's Retail Storefront – Mission Hill Gazette

The MBTA has put out an Invitation to Bid (ITB) on a key storefront in the Roxbury Crossing Station – with the lease expiring for the current lease-holder Domino's Pizza in the coming months.

Domino's has existed in the busy storefront location that is situated within the MBTA station for many years, but according to the MBTA's Joe Pesaturo, that lease is expiring and the T would like to see what interest is out there.

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream offering free scoops from truck ahead of Center City storefront opening |

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream will open a storefront in Center City Philadelphia, at 119 S. 13th St., on Aug. 18. A Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck will make stops at locations around the city to provide free scoops over the coming week.

Just in time for an August heatwave, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is putting the final touches on a new shop in Center City. The Brooklyn-based business will be giving out free scoops from a truck in the coming days ahead of the launch in Philadelphia.

Out and proud on Adams | News | Illinois Times

Adams Street in Springfield is getting more colorful. In June Jonna Cooley attended the second annual Pride Brunch on the Adams Street patio in Springfield when she took notice of an empty storefront next to Elf Shelf Books and Music.

"On that day, we helped so many people who had questions and wanted to help family members and friends," said Cooley of the brunch event in June.

Through Imagina Essex , the lobby of a vacant former bank building at 238 Essex St. is being temporarily reactivated this summer with a series of four pop-up events featuring merchants selling products, art displays, musical performances, and hands-on activities.

The program, which also features window decorations in an empty storefront at 222 Essex St.

Wendy's delivery coming to US, Canada and UK

A Wendy's spokesperson would not say where the kitchens will be located, but on an earnings call Wednesday morning, Wendy's CEO Todd Penegor said the move is intended to build a foothold in urban areas where Wendy's has little market share.

Wendy's is partnering with restaurant operator REEF, which plans to open 50 ghost kitchens this year, according to a news release.
