Winsted storefront decoration contest is on

The Winchester Economic Development Commission is hosting the second annual town-wide store front contest. Pictured, Main Street heading into downtown Winsted and Winchester.

The top three most improved storefront facades will be awarded with a generous monetary prize along with the winner receiving a special recognition ceremony, according to the commission.

New storefront Viva La Vida Imports sells handmade items from Mexico

Diana Miranda regularly stood at the stop sign at Market and Winder streets in Detroit and pointed to a building. She said that she wanted her first storefront to be in that space.

"I would look at (the building) and I would just say, 'This is the one,'" Miranda said. "I was like, 'That's got to be it.' At that time, we were just trying to put it together."

19 Black women land retail storefront in busy Downtown DC | wusa9.com

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The SpiceGirlin' Market Place was among the few small businesses chosen to receive a brick-and-mortar store in Downton D.C. as part of the Grow Golden program.

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) partnered with landlords to provide multiple months of free rent as part of the new program to help the area recover due to a high number of vacant offices and retail spaces.

Jackie Morin just opened her cotton candy business, Wonderpuff . It took her about a year to open this storefront because of delays from the pandemic, but she took it as an opportunity.

Turkish bakery Tulip Cafe opens off Hayden Road in Columbus

Two Turkish women who turned a hobby into a successful bakery business have opened a storefront on the Northwest Side.

The Tulip Cafe sold Turkish baked goods at farmer's markets for years and operated a Westerville coffee shop before securing a space from which to prepare and sell their foods.

Rashida Sawyer Bakery formally opens storefront in Ithaca

Sweetly Baked, a CBD bakery, is opening in downtown Milwaukee

In case baked goods didn't make you euphoric already: Downtown Milwaukee is getting an upscale, small-batch CBD bakery and confectionery next week, born of a pandemic career change.

It also will sell from a window once or twice a week; the first day for that will be Sept. 8 on the lower level of 770 N. Jefferson St., where the bakery's shared commercial kitchen is. The owner is holding off on opening a storefront because of the pandemic, which has slowed traffic downtown.

Holland Cutting Board Co. opens retail store in Holland Township

HOLLAND TWP. — The wait is finally over for Chuck German, who has long dreamed of opened a retail storefront for his business: Holland Cutting Board Co.

German, a fourth generation woodworker, launched the company in January 2019 after his son, Brett, brought home a hardwood cutting board from his first woodshop class in high school.
