Yes, we are shopping way more than ever | BPR

By every forecast and measure possible, this holiday shopping season is slated to be a record-breaker. In fact, this whole year's shopping spree is setting records that not even the Grinch could stop.

U.S. shoppers are expected to spend up to $859 billion between this month and next, according to the National Retail Federation. That could be as much as 10.5% more than what was spent during last year's record holiday shopping season.

Black Friday shopping in stores drops from pre-pandemic levels

Traffic at retail stores on Black Friday dropped 28.3 percent compared with 2019 levels, as shoppers shifted more of their spending online and kicked off their shopping earlier in the year, according to preliminary data from Sensormatic Solutions.

This time in 2020, many shoppers stayed at home due to fears around the coronavirus pandemic and as retailers operated on somewhat reduced hours.

Small Business Saturday Holiday Shopping Is Back, and Maybe Changed Forever – NBC New York

Over one-third of Americans (34%) say they plan to shop on Small Business Saturday, a rebound from 2020, but spending during the holiday promotional day has not returned to the levels seen before the pandemic, according to a new CNBC|Momentive Small Business Survey.

In 2020, 30% of Americans said they would patronize a small business on Small Business Saturday. Pre-pandemic, support for local businesses was higher, if declining: 44% in 2018 and 39% in 2019.
