My career advice has always been to show up on time, shower occasionally, not drink to excess and learn Mandarin (or some other language that isn't your native tongue). I don't know why I get asked for pro tips, but I do get asked, often by high school and college students. Let me now add another: study some economics.
In the interests of self-improvement, I've set out to do two new things in early 2020. First, unmusical me is trying to learn my first six cords on an electric guitar. I have heard that makes a person more attractive. Secondly, and more relevant to my work, I have resolved to refresh my understanding of basic economics.

Could streaming giants start to clamp down on password sharing? - Marketplace
Streaming giants know you are doing it and don't seem to mind too much despite the fact that they are losing billions.
To be precise, they lost an estimated $9.1 billion in revenue in just 2019, according to a recent report by research firm Park Associates and that number is expected to rise to nearly $12.5 billion by 2024. And the younger you are, the more likely it is that you are contributing to that revenue loss.
I've been a "cord cutter" since 2008. These days there's so many options and the marketplace has become incredibly competitive, so much so that I just canceled @Netflix .
With so many great options out there, with the price increase and redundancy between many, why keep it?
The unmatched impact of Boeing's 737 Max on the economy - Marketplace
The crisis at Boeing is showing up in key economic indicators that affect us all. In particular, economists say it means that GDP won't grow as fast as expected at the start of this year.
Which got us to thinking: What else is similarly crucial to the economy? Are there any other single products which, if they went away, would have such a noticeable impact?
Economists have sophisticated computer models which can calculate not only the dollar value of not selling a product, but also the repercussions on suppliers and even on local businesses if workers are laid off. For Boeing’s 737 Max, those downstream repercussions are large.
