Real-Time Data Streaming, Kafka and Analytics Part 3: Effective Planning for Data Streaming

Data stream processing is defined as a system performing transformations for creating analytics on data inside a stream. In Part 1 of this series, we defined data streaming to provide an understanding of its importance. In Part 2, we got a bit more technical in explaining data integration and ingestion into one of the more popular stream platforms, Apache Kafka.

Companies who wish to take advantage of real-time data streams for analytics require a modern data architecture. This infrastructure can be managed through the emerging DataOps, which applies principles of lean manufacturing, DevOps and agile software development to data pipeline management. By leveraging DataOps, companies can implement a fully governed data management strategy that promotes team collaboration and use of data for business-driven data analytics.

The Houston Astros And The Ethical Use Of Data And Analytics

WASHINGTON, DC - OCTOBER 23: Washington Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki (28) hits a home run in the ... The Astros probably weren't the only team that stole pitch signals; there is considerable speculation that the Boston Red Sox, managed by former Houston bench coach Alex Cora in 2018 (when they won the World Series) and 2019, did something similar, and they are currently under investigation. The Red Sox, who are my home team, were also accused by their archenemy New York Yankees of using Apple Watches to transmit stolen pitch signs in 2017, which would have been an illegal use of technology.

AI and data analytics, among other newer technologies, are already reshaping how colleges interact with students and potential recruits, the report's authors note.

Many colleges, for instance, have rolled out automated chatbots to help answer students' questions and direct them to institutional resources.

Northwestern University, in Illinois, developed a chatbot within the learning management system that can answer common questions and search for documents related to students' inquiries. Several colleges have improved their enrollment or graduation rates by adding such technology.
