What to watch for in Thursday's weekly unemployment claims numbers - Marketplace

Another week’s worth of data reporting initial unemployment claims will be released this Thursday morning. Last week, the Department of Labor reported that the number of initial unemployment claims jumped to 281,000 . That’s a steep rise from the near historic low of 211,000 the previous week. “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal spoke to Tara Sinclair, an economics professor at George Washington University, about what she’ll be looking for in Thursday’s data.

Marketplace changes store hours | KX NEWS

Marketplace Foods has changed its store hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow employees to clean and stock the store, effective immediately.

From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every day, shopping will only be for customers at high risk (older adults, pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals), first responders and medical personnel.

Marketplace said their distributors, vendors and suppliers are all working diligently to keep the flow of goods to all their stores, though they may have some out of stock items but will continue to replenish as fast as possible.

How COVID-19 may further erode our digital privacy - Marketplace

Governments are looking to technology to help measure the spread of COVID-19, and increasingly that means surveillance. Israel passed a law last week to gather cell phone location data to identify and track people with the virus. The U.S. government has been in talks with tech companies about similar measures.

Privacy advocates say our next steps are critical. There are good reasons to hand over personal information in a crisis, but the consequences might outlast the moment.

London guide battles lockdown blues with virtual tours - Marketplace

Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday night enlisted the country's residents to suit up in the battle against COVID-19.

* * *

Residents are only allowed to leave their homes for essential shopping trips, to exercise outside once per day and to travel to work if it's absolutely necessary.

That now means most people are working from home, most shops are closed and only the likes of grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants are allowed to operate.

Minecraft Marketplace adds Education section with free material | VentureBeat

The world is stuck at home as part of the fight against the spread of COVID-19 . This has led to a huge jump in gaming activity across multiple platforms. Sony has even agreed to throttle its network to save bandwidth for more crucial data. But just because people are spending more time with games doesn't mean kids can't still learn. And Microsoft plans to help with that by launching free educational content in its popular brick-building game Minecraft .

You can open the Minecraft Marketplace right now to find a new Education category. This section includes lessons that Microsoft originally included in Minecraft: Education Edition. They enable students to explore the International Space Station, the inner workings of the human eye, and more. All of the material in the Education category is available for free through June 30.

DealerCircle launches new supplier marketplace | Boating Industry

"The Supplier Marketplace is our proprietary platform that allows for the incorporation of suppliers' products right into our DealersCircle application," said DealersCircle president Scott Davis. "This will assist our more than 1,200 dealers in further streamlining their order process. Imagine, a dealer placing an order for an OEM product, and being able to see and add verified supplier products on to the order as an equipment feature.

"This is the initial version of the Supplier Marketplace, so while we have started with a handful of product offerings, we anticipate this available list to grow substantially as well as the marketplace's associated capabilities," said Davis. "Interested suppliers have the opportunity to be added to our marketplace after their application/interview process is complete, as we want to ensure we are providing top quality and viable options for our dealer network."
