Retail reopens in Yellow Phase, but not all customers are ready to shop in stores again |

YORK, Pa. — Twelve additional Pennsylvania counties moved into  Yellow Phase on May 22: Adams, Beaver, Carbon, Columbia, Cumberland, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Wayne and York.

In Yellow Phase, public pools and childcare centers are allowed to reopen, as well as retail stores.

In the first weekend of in-person shopping since stores shut down two months ago, small shop owners hoped to answer the question of whether customers would feel comfortable coming in.

“We’re trying to expand everywhere, we’re trying to go into Wayne and even the Detroit, which it seems like they have plenty of dispensaries, but they don’t have a Freddie’s,” said owner of Freddie’s, Barry Goodman.

'People are still afraid': Customers largely stay away as Baltimore County businesses reopen -

Virginia Peery began selling home decor and trinkets at a Glen Burnie flea market 11 years ago as a way to make ends meet after the 2008 recession.

With three other merchants, Peery opened This N That Treasures on East Drive in Arbutus in early March. She chose the location because the people are friendly, and she was drawn in by the thought of seeing the business corridor thrive with new, burgeoning businesses like Ellicott City, she said.

The shop was open for less than two weeks before she had to close in mid-March under state orders to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Customers swarm local hair salon on reopening day | Business | statesville.com

Great Clips manager Jessee Mendoza talks with customers as signs on the business show new restrictions.

Sammy Halsey said he'd been on the verge of driving to Rock Hill, South Carolina. He just couldn't keep chopping away at his own hair for much longer. Then came the Phase 2 reopening of several businesses in North Carolina, including hair salons, as of Friday night.

Saturday, the impact of the lifting of some of the restrictions of the stay-at-home order, which is now a safer-at-home directive, was clear as people ate on the sidewalk across downtown — and sat in their cars, engines idling to keep the air on in the hot sun, as they waited for something many have been talking about for weeks. Haircuts were high on the list of many of those who had been waiting at home for some businesses to reopen.

Customers are like family to local business owners | Cape Gazette

So on Mother's Day weekend, my husband suggested we attend a Teller Wines tasting via Zoom. Hubby purchased four bottles of wines earlier in the week and lined them up on the counter on Saturday evening.

The cheese platter from Heirloom came on a Noritake May Garden china plate. Owner Meghan had dutifully labeled the cheeses and included their sourdough loaf rolled in caraway, fennel, pepita seeds, oats and sesame with whipped butter. "Shouldn't we just have a cheese and bread party?" I asked.
