Amherst planner warns of possibility of empty storefronts downtown - masslive.com
AMHERST — The possibility that some downtown restaurants and shops may not reopen when the COVID-19 pandemic ends is a driving force behind the town's effort to speed up the approval process to site new businesses.

"Some of them probably won't come back ... and there will be empty storefronts," Town Planner Christine Brestrup told the Planning Board at Wednesday's meeting.
The proposed speedier process would replace, for six months, the public process enshrined in state law and municipal ordinances to vet business applicants that want to locate in town.
Andonix Opens 'Safely Pass(TM) Storefront' To Equip Front-line Workers with Protective Gear
DETROIT , May 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Andonix, the developer of Smart Work Station, an industry-leading 4.0 SaaS solution that empowers front-line workers with a comprehensive digital work flows, collaboration and communications platform, today announced the grand opening of "Safely Storefront," which arms front-line workers with the proper PPE to stay safe amidst the global pandemic.
COVID-19 has rapidly and drastically disrupted the American workforce, forcing many employees to shift to large-scale work from home. However, there are 25 million front-line workers who do not have this option, including first responders, utility workers, farmers, food distributors and grocers. As a result, many employees have been sent home from work due to health risks, disrupting operations and preventing workers from receiving a steady cash flow.

Artists paint storefront windows during coronavirus | wusa9.com
WASHINGTON — Eerie silence and iridescent storefronts are the new curious qualities coronavirus has mixed together among a growing number of empty shops, theaters and restaurants from Anacostia to Adams Morgan.
Artists inspired by the "Paint the Storefronts" movement are now moving their studios outdoors, to the windows of abandoned cafés on Massachusetts Avenue, or to their latest project, the shimmering façade of Arena Stage in Southwest.
They see glass canvases looking into empty buildings, windows reflecting now familiar scenes of families in masks, or restaurateurs in the dark, taking stock of the damage done.
