Shootout at busy Birmingham shopping center leaves at least 1 wounded - al.com

According to police and witnesses, a fight between at least two men broke out in the parking lot Roebuck Plaza on Parkway East. That led to shots fired about 11:30 a.m. The ordeal began in front of the DTLR store, where a long line of customers had been waiting earlier to buy new Jordan shoes that dropped today, witnesses said. Police said they have not yet determined whether that had anything to do with the dispute.

An off-duty Birmingham officer working security at one of the stores called in the shooting. Police flocked to the scene, roping off most of the parking lot and methodically checking each store for possible suspects.

When Tison is informed that the video is being broadcast to the shopper's "3,000-follower Instagram feed," he gives a polite wave and shares exactly what he is doing and why.

When the shopper responds, "And I'm not doing it because I woke up in a free country," Tison brings a swift end to the exchange by walking off with the cart, which prompted a futile last-ditch attempt to save his items as Tison walks away.

The Biggest Thing in Online Shopping? A Store.

(Bloomberg Opinion) -- It's no surprise to hear that retailers' online sales are surging through the coronavirus pandemic. But would you guess that for some of the biggest winners, it's their physical stores that gave those sales a boost?

Even as consumers grapple with stay-at-home orders and their own fears of contagion, a surprisingly large number are willing to pick up their digital orders at a store. Target Corp. on Wednesday said sales through its curbside drive-up option — shoppers order online, pick up at a store — increased 1,000% in April compared to a year earlier.
