BATON ROUGE, La. — A viral video online shows a Louisiana school board member being chastised by a community member who called the elected official arrogant and racist.
During an East Baton Rouge Parish School Board meeting Thursday, officials encouraged community members to explain why they believed a local school should be renamed and to suggest alternate names. The school in question, Lee High School, was named in honor of Confederate general Robert. E. Lee. In Baton Rogue, where more than 50% of residents are black, many people have criticized the name, saying it memorializes a man who owned hundreds of slaves.

Amazon will stop supporting its Dash Wand shopping device on July 21st | Engadget
The Dash Wand was a handheld, battery-based Alexa device with a barcode reader. You’d use it to order more food just by scanning existing containers and asking for more. It also served as an always-available voice assistant in parts of the home where a fixed-in-place Alexa speaker might not hear you.
However, it lost much of its reason for being. Alexa-capable speakers became more affordable and ubiquitous — unless you really wanted that barcode reader, an Echo Dot in the kitchen represented a better value. And if you really needed portability, your phone and the Alexa app were likely enough. In that light, the end to Dash Wand support is a recognition that Amazon’s resources are better spent on the devices people use.

It's been three months since malls shut down across Maryland in response to the coronavirus emerging in the state.
At Westfield Annapolis' first day back open since the pandemic hit Anne Arundel County, it felt, at times, like a regular Saturday afternoon at the mall. Couples held hands, teenagers traveled in packs, shoppers carried armfuls of plastic bags flashing familiar logos.
But the ways in which shopping has changed and will continue to shift was just as present. A heavy security presence scanned the potential for dispersing crowds, only a few people could enter a store at a time and everyone in sight wore a mask.
