Kids will be back to school within the next two weeks, whether they're actually at school or home or both. Regardless, it's that time of year parents have to endure: school shopping.

We have to get the kids new outfits, backpacks and school supplies. But this year, they'll also need face masks and hand sanitizer.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Dollar stores get another boost from pandemic shopping habits in Q2 | Retail Dive

Like Walmart, Target and other general merchandisers, the dollar stores have seen surges in demand as consumers consolidate their shopping trips and avoid malls and other retail areas.

Dollar General saw less traffic at its stores, but high ticket values more than made up for it. Sales of more non-consumable products, as well as higher markups, helped boost profit margins along with sales even as higher distribution costs cut into gross profit. Dollar General also took on incremental costs related to COVID-19, including increases in employee compensation, but those too were offset by the spike in sales.

The Hidden Costs of Online Grocery Shopping - TheStreet

With a 10-month-old baby to think about, my husband and I have kept trips to the store to a minimum out of an abundance of caution during the pandemic. We’re fortunate to have just about every grocery delivery service at our disposal — and we’ve taken advantage.

Here’s why online grocery shopping could affect how much you spend — and ways to keep your budget intact .

On Costco’s website, I was met with the message “item prices are marked up higher than your local warehouse. Instacart uses the markup to pay for their delivery service.” The exact price difference wasn’t specified.

Aldi shopping: 15 things to know

With Aldi opening two new Williamson County stores later this year, here are some things that you need to know if you are going to shop there.

• You have to pay for your grocery cart. You pay a quarter to get a cart. But it's really free, since you get your quarter back when you return the cart to its proper place. ALDI officials say the 25 cent cart "rental" system saves customers money since ALDI doesn't have to hire extra staff to collect the carts from the parking lot.
