Worcester area's independent bookstores a good option for holiday shopping

Independent area bookstores fight the good fight when facing competition from online sellers and big booksellers. With the sudden closure of Worcester's Barnes & Noble store, Worcester residents can still find a large selection of books and gifts and area indies.

The people who own and operate these stores are usually booklovers themselves, with lots of knowledge to help customers find new or classic selections for holiday giving. They've managed to draw customers through a variety of methods, often offering a café and sitting areas, browsing nooks and public functions (these last in pre-COVID times). They host writing and reading groups, authors and, importantly, area writers.
