Evolve Is Changing The Online Rental Marketplace

Another point of difference is our respective competition. For Evolve, the competition consists of all other properties to rent in the markets we operate in. Those competitors typically include local property managers or individual owners — a.k.a. hosts — taking a do-it-yourself approach to renting their home.

For Airbnb, the competition is other marketplaces that focus on short-term rental, for example, Vrbo and Booking.com. Those companies are also in the business of matching supply with demand, so they're each trying to get as many homes advertised on their site as possible while driving as many consumers to shop on their site as possible.

The high stakes of aid for state and local governments - Marketplace

Money for state and local governments whose revenues have been decimated by the pandemic remains a sticking point in Congress as lawmakers continue negotiations over another coronavirus relief bill.

Many Republican senators are opposed to further assistance beyond the $150 billion allocated by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act in March, despite warnings from economists that austerity measures by state and local governments will hamper the country's economic recovery.

Which essential workers should be prioritized for vaccines? - Marketplace

Federal guidelines consider almost 70% of Americans to be working in essential industries . So there are now a slew of companies and trade groups making their cases to federal and state authorities.

“There’s no doubt that there’s going to be a healthy fight over who should be prioritized when it comes to access to vaccines,” said Geoff Freeman, CEO of the Consumer Brands Association.

His organization is fighting for packaged goods workers who keep things like toilet paper and cleaning supplies on shelves.

Congress averts shutdown, buys time for more COVID-19 talks - Marketplace

Congress sent a temporary government-wide funding bill to President Donald Trump on Friday that would avert a federal shutdown at midnight and buy time for on-again, off-again talks on COVID-19 aid.

The bill sets a new deadline of midnight next Friday. The short-term measure passed the Senate by a unanimous voice vote without much drama and sent senators home for the weekend without a clear picture of what awaits next week. The House passed the bill Wednesday. Trump was expected to sign it before midnight.

Caught in the crosshairs of a trade war and a pandemic - Marketplace

Lydia Clarke opened her second cheese shop, DTLA Cheese , in Grand Central Market in 2013. As a cheesemonger, Clarke said she is naturally interested in stories, but she also really loves cheese. What attracted her the most to the downtown Los Angeles landmark was its 100-year history.

"When I walk in here, there’s a pride of the steps because somebody has worked here for over 100 years," said Clarke. "The history that’s in this building has just so dramatically changed since March."

How one family is looking ahead to a post-pandemic world - Marketplace

Michael Durant: You know, it’s starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. So I got an optimistic outlook.

Ryssdal: That’s my memory of you from that very first time we met was that you are an optimistic kind of guy. How’s business in the tax world? Let me just get that out of the way first, before we move on to some other stuff.

Durant: You know, business is good, and it’s also frustrating in the sense that, you know, there’s a lot of people needing our work, but it’s frustrating, because a lot of the questions they have we don’t have answers for. You know, we’re waiting for Washington to figure out what they’re going to do.
