NEW YORK (Reuters)pan - In an era of social distancing, businesses must be snappy in responding to customers or fall behind, a lesson Jeff Sloan, chief executive of Global Payments, quickly learned.

"You've got to be more responsive and more flexible than before" or come across as not caring, said Sloan, whose company processes payments for companies in over 100 countries.

Contactless payment transactions grew by 34% in 2020, with the seismic shift speeding up as much as five years because of the pandemic, he estimated.

PHOENIX — The surprise announcement by the Arizona Attorney General's Office of a $25 million settlement this week with utility company APS has longtime consumer advocates both relieved and skeptical.

They have been burned before by the very institutions that are supposed to hold APS accountable. And there is no way to know if this time is different.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who has a track record of amassing big payouts from companies accused of bad behavior , said he negotiated a payout for more than 200,000 Arizona consumers, who may have been unfairly overcharged by APS due to a faulty online rate advisor tool and inadequate customer communication dating back to 2017.

MDU gas customers could feel pinch from February cold snap | State & Regional |

Smoke rises from chimneys in east Bismarck as furnaces heat up homes on a cold winter morning in January 2019.

Montana-Dakota Utilities customers likely will see a spike in their natural gas bills in the wake of this month's cold snap that sent temperatures plummeting below zero every day for longer than a week.

Gas consumption across MDU's system for February rose about 40% above what's expected under normal temperatures, spokesman Mark Hanson said. The more gas a customer uses, the higher the bill.

Fisker CEO: Our goal is bigger than just taking Tesla customers

The founder and CEO of Fisker told CNBC on Thursday that the electric-vehicle startup is trying to do more than just swipe market share from Tesla .

Henrik Fisker made the comments in an interview on "Mad Money," one day after his company announced it had inked a key production deal with Foxconn Technology Group . The Taiwan-based firm is best known for its role assembling iPhones for Apple .

"At the end of the day, we're not out here just to go and take Tesla customers away from Tesla," Fisker told host Jim Cramer. "That's great if they come ... but the real market opportunity is the 80 million people who buy a new car every year. That's gigantic opportunity."

Salesforce beats Q4 estimates, Slack adds record number of paid customers | ZDNet

Salesforce's fourth quarter non-GAAP diluted earnings per share came to $1.04 on revenue of $5.82 billion, up 20 percent year-over-year.

For the full fiscal year 2021, non-GAAP diluted earnings per share were $4.92 on revenue of $21.25 billion, up 24 percent year-over-year.

"We never could have predicted a year ago what was in store, which makes me incredibly proud of how well we pivoted our company to adapt to this pandemic world," CEO Marc Benioff said in a statement. "We had a record quarter and year by innovating more and faster than ever, enabling our customers to be successful from anywhere, and becoming more relevant and strategic than ever.
