2 Ways to 'Marketplace' Your E-Commerce Site - Modern Distribution Management

2 Ways to 'Marketplace' Your E-Commerce Site - Modern Distribution Management

Business customers are starting to demand full marketplace e-commerce offerings from distributors. Distributors' best customers want to get everything from one place – and who can blame them? But this means that distributors are left scrambling to figure out how they can quickly deliver on at least part of the marketplace value proposition.

Many distributors have already invested millions in their e-commerce infrastructure and don't want to start all over again. Instead, they are looking for an endless aisle offering that allows them to add additional products from third-party sellers. This endless aisle capability is what many call a "marketplace" business model . There are two pieces to the marketplace puzzle: the technology and attracting third-party sellers.

Women less likely to ask for raises, promotions during COVID - Marketplace

International Women’s Day is a fitting time to acknowledge that the pandemic has been a very difficult time for women as workers, wage-earners and caregivers.

Women's labor force participation has fallen to a more-than 30-year low as millions of women have been laid off, or quit to care for family members. Women's child care and home-schooling duties have risen more than men , up more than six hours a day.

A new Indeed survey conducted in December finds that during the pandemic, women are less likely than men to ask for higher pay or promotions. The Indeed Hiring Lab surveyed women and men about how willing they are to approach their boss for a raise or promotion. (Full disclosure: Indeed is a “Marketplace Morning Report” underwriter.)

The customs industry navigates port delays, tariffs and uncertainty - Marketplace

While business has been steady for Gretchen Blough, a customs-brokerage manager in Erie, Pennsylvania, it’s also been plagued by uncertainty.

Her clients “keep asking me, ‘Well, when are they going away?'” Blough told “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal. “And I don’t have a crystal ball. I don’t know.”

* * *

Gretchen Blough: Everyone seemed to think that a magic wand would wave and all the China tariffs would go away when the Trump administration left, but that’s not the case. President Biden is looking to study the effect of all of those extra tariffs on American importers because they’re the ones paying the tariffs, so no magic wand is out there to wave and send all those tariffs away.

Global rebound drives crude oil higher - Marketplace

Let's start by stipulating that a drone and missile attack on Saudi oil and military sites was the proximate cause of oil prices jumping higher Monday morning to above $70 a barrel for Brent crude and just a tad under $68 for West Texas Intermediate . Houthi rebels claimed responsibility. Later reports said there was no significant damage to Saudi facilities, and oil prices ended up falling back down.

But crude oil prices are still up significantly over the past several months. After crashing to negative dollars a barrel on the spot market in mid-April after the pandemic hit, WTI recovered, anemically, to hover around $35 until late fall. Then it started edging steadily higher and is now sitting around $65 a barrel.

Seattle co-working firm lost half its revenue almost overnight - Marketplace

Audrey Hoyt's small business was taking off last year, and she was feeling optimistic that she had finally created something sustainable. But once the pandemic hit and slashed her revenue in half, Hoyt said she started dipping into her savings to keep her doors open.

Hoyt owns The Pioneer Collective , which operates co-working spaces in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington. Hoyt left the financial industry five years ago to start the business, and she has just two employees. Hoyt said February 2020 was the company's best month to date, but things changed almost immediately once state-mandated closures went into place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
