Data Is Great — But It’s Not a Replacement for Talking to Customers

Many companies rely too much on big data and analytics in their hunt for strategic insights.  They’d do better if they actually went out and talked to their customers instead, as Toyota and Adobe do, because data is too rooted in what managers already think their customers are interested in.

The ability to gather and process intimate, granular detail on a mass scale promises to uncover unimaginable relationships within a market. But does "detail" actually equate to "insight"?

More than 5,000 Entergy customers without power

Customers residing in the areas of Florida Boulevard and Airline Highway around the Cortana Mall site are reporting outages. 

An Entergy spokesperson said the outages are due to an issue at one of their substations. Crews are currently on site determining the cause of the issue. 

There is no current estimation on how long it will take to restore power in the affected areas.

Utah officials call for customers to destroy aquarium moss balls after zebra mussel discovery |

SALT LAKE CITY — State wildlife officials across the U.S., including Utah, are urging anyone who recently purchased a Betta Buddy Marimo Ball for their aquarium to throw away the moss ball after boiling or freezing it.

Authorities began alerting possible customers this week after zebra mussels, an invasive aquatic species tied to all sorts of water infrastructure damage and ecological harm, was detected in the product sold at pet and aquarium stores in Utah and across the country.

"It's been a good day, and we want to continue this trend through the weekend," Public Works Director Charles Williams said during a Friday news conference.

Customers band together virtually to bring back fan favorites

Fans of McDonald's McRib sandwich are a large and vocal group. They even have their own website—McRibGate—where anticipation builds each year for McRibSzn. In 2020, an insider got hold of an internal McDonald's memo spelling out the launch date of the iconic sandwich, and the excitement reached a fever pitch.

Lately, there seems to be more buzz than ever on social media channels and Change.org—a site with 100 million users—pressuring chains to bring back former menu favorites. During the pandemic, many restaurants pared down their menus and eliminated items that were more complicated to execute or weren't selling as well. Or they might have removed these products from menus a while back to make room for new LTOs.

CenturyLink customers in Omaha report ongoing outage

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha residents are looking for answers after having internet connection issues with a company since earlier this week.

"What you get is an automated system. If you call from your household landline, they actually know your phone number so that helps. But when I tried to call them with the mobile phone this morning, oh my god, it was insane," said Jones.

In the meantime, if Jones wants to use the internet on his laptop, he goes to his wife's place of work and connects to their WiFi. But Jones is retired and he feels for the people who are having the same issues as him but more so for the ones who need it for work or school.
